Location: SW Washington | I had to go up to the music store in Olympia today.... As usual I wandered into the acoustic guitar room to play a few guitars.... one in particular caused me to do a double take... I KNEW it could not POSSIBLY be.... but I had to look anyhow...there was one very distinctive minor ding to look for to be sure.... This was a rare guitar... a Takamine F375s with the old style logo on the peghead... since I had traded mine to my room mate in 1979 for a Takamine classical he had, I had never ever seen another one... I picked it up and looked near the binding on the upper bout and there it was! A small comma shaped ding I put in it! This was the very first quality guitar I ever bought... Back in the summer of 1977 and 450 miles south of here!!!! This was not just the same model guitar... this was THE guitar! I played it for a half hour and WOW...does it ever have great tone! It projects better than anything I have played in years. Unfortunately it isn't a cutaway and I really have no use for non-cutaways anymore. I use the upper frets a LOT. If not for that I may have bought it back... Although I do know there was some damage to the bracing inside that I did when my mental state was impaired, lol. But that may well have been fixed by subsequent owners. All in all tho, the years have been kind to it. It has obviously been used a lot and I was glad to see that. I wish it could tell me the stories of it's journeys since we parted company 32 years ago....

Location: Route 66, just east of the Cadillac Ranch | Great story. I'd jump at the chance to buy back my first guitar, an 1121-1 I bought in 72-73, especially if it was still playable. Lots of fond memories associated with that guitar. You may never have another opportunity.... |

Location: SoCal | Nick, my first good guitar was a 1121 as well. I've been authorized by the wife to buy it if I ever find it. Bought in Houston in 1972, traded in Santa Ana in 1979...... |

Location: SW Washington | It would be really cool to own it again, but I just bought an iDea and am seriously considering getting another one to have on hand in case one of my students is in the market for one. And for what they are asking for that Takamine I could buy two iDeas. The Takamine is worth every penny of that price, but it just isn't what I need.
And Beal, thank you...now I know why I am so broke...I rarely play below the fifth fret anymore! It all makes sense now! lol |

As Nick said, I think everyone has a guitar "in the past" that would reappear today to buy it back. |

I have had this same experience myself and have regretted it ever since... that I didn't buy back my first 'professional' guitar when I found again after thirty-some years.
At the time, I just didn't have the money and and buying it on credit would have been completely irresponsible... but I should have done it ANYWAY. Second chances like these are very hard to come by.
