Location: Brighty in Blighty | Had to share my O news with some people that might be interested, OK so you might not...
1. After listening to various advice on this board about cleaning my Elite Specical I tried Dunlop 65 cleaner and polish on the body and yup thats great stuff, cleaned but didn't polish the matt surface, exactly what I wanted so thanks.
Then tried the Dunlop 65 Wax on the back of the neck, woah there tiger slow down, I thought O necks were fast, it's crazy now :-) And smooth!
2. Will be flying in from London to Austin TX on Saturday for a business trip, my new 6778LX is currently on route with Fedex to my hotel and will be waiting for me :-)
3. Had a jam with some friends on Saturday, the Elite Special versus a Simon & Patrick and piano and Roland V drums, the Elite stood it's ground and we even had to turn the drums up!

| I use Fret Doctor on the fretboards of all my gits, nice product. You really don't need a whole lot. I'll have to give the Dunlop 65 a try. Always nice to hear about an O holding it's own. |

now I don't know that the Fret Doctor knows more than you etc but his argument for Fret Doctor is quite convincing.
"Mineral oil merely coats the surface, giving it a bright sheen, but does not penetrate the wood. This oil prevents absorption by a plant oil after the fact. This includes most bore oils, but not all. Read the label. Most so-called fretboard treatments and bore oils are no more than inexpensive mineral oil with a scent added, like lemon." |

Location: closely held secret | "Quite convincing"? Sure, if you don't take into account they're trying to sell you a product.
All they're doing is telling you why you shouldn't use other (cheaper, readily available) products. Do they tell you the 'secret' ingredient that makes theirs better? It's just marketing spoo.
Mineral oil works great. Just make sure you get real mineral oil. |

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | I use Dunlop fingerboard cleaner/prep, then I apply Dunlop 65 lemon oil. It's always worked great. The bottle of lemon oil that I have costs about $6.00 and I've had it for at least two years, and it'll last another two at least. |

I've been using mineral oil on all of my fingerboards (AND all of my cutting boards) for YEARS
. . . it also works wonders on cleaning-out a hairball-bound cat . . .

Location: SoCal | Gerlitz Guitar Honey - gone through 1 1/2 2oz bottles in two months. That was for eighteeen guitars restrung, fretboards, bridges, epaulets (including the inside edge of cutouts), oiled necks and headstocks, Adamas carved headstocks, etc.
IMHO, really brings out the rosewood or ebony fretboards and bridges (to include the walnut) better than the lemon oil or mineral oil. Spray bottle.

Location: Utah | Must be my fretboards don't get enough oiling, though they seem healthy. I'm still using the can of Alvarez brand fretboard oil that came with my 12 string guitar purchased in 1977. |

| I use 20/50 in my race car but I've never oiled the fretboard on any of my guitars and I've had them since 1974 with no problems.
How big of a deal is it to oil or not oil the fretboard ? |
