Thoughts on the LTD99? I saw one on Elderly for $900, is that an inflated price?

Location: Phoenix AZ | Depends what you are after. Of the LTD series, asthetically the 99 is one of my favorites. But to be honest, the LTD series is designed to showcase the "art" of guitar building. Hence, the LTDs and definately not the best sounding guitars that Takamine offers and often lack the features of other models. Often lack the features of even lesser priced models. Yes they do look "cool". $999. is a good price, but to be honest if it was me I'd pony up a few more bucks and for $1300-$1500 you can get a Tak that sonically blows the doors off most other guitars in its class and (sorry O fan) has the best electronics in the business. Just my opinion.

Location: Jet City | Thanks Dave. That EXACTLY what I was trying to find out. It almost looked like more of a wall hanger.
Yeah, the electronics on this thing looked out there. Whenyou can't figure out the next verse, do you just hit the button labeled "Write"? :D

Location: Phoenix AZ | Yeah, the AD-1 was sort of ahead of it's time. It was really the first DSP pre-amp. Remember, it was 1999 !!! It didn't catch on and I'm not sure they even offer that preamp anymore. The nice thing is that all Tak preamps are interchangable. Id'd throw a Cool Tube or CT4BII in this guitar in a heartbeat and it would be a really nice setup. Dave |

Call Al and check out the Taks in YOUR price range. Most of them are absolutely stellar playing and sounding guitars |

There was a whole THREAD about the 1999 LTD.
And HERE are some detailed photos of the 1999 LTD.

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Over there, they bait you with all the great sounding Taks, then pull a not so slight-of-hand switch to Collings. If you're not careful, you get caught up in the group-think, then find yourself being pushed and pulled along with the crowd until eventually you are reaching way farther down into the depths of your pockets than you ever planned. They're tricky over there. Glad that's not the way it is here. Except for Adamas, and Hamer, and . . . |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Hey, be nice. Taks and Ovations are compliments, not rivals. No Takamine sounds like an Ovation and no Ovation sounds like a Takamine. And that's a good thing no matter which side of the table you look from.
Variety is good. If every woman in the world had blonde hair and big boobs wouldn't that be boring? Um, ok maybe not ... But I like a lot of different guitars.
There was a time when I had 52 different Ovations in the house all at once. I thought I was king of the Ovation world. WRONG. It was boring, redundent and ultimately frustrating. I began experimenting (shut up Cliff) and have struck a nice balance of a reasonably small collection that covers all bases and the beauty is that every single one of my guitars speaks to me, and speaks to me in a different voice.

Location: SoCal | Vic, I agree that the 1537 is an outstanding guitar. However, Tak used to be a wannabee and I have had a couple of "lawsuit" guitars. Guess you could say any of the others such as Taylor, Breedlove, etc., are wannabees. Wannabee to have the level of success, fan base, etc. Yet, each of the guitar companies are creating serious competition for Martin with players that don't buy the name and snob appeal.
Until I started recently to spend some time checking out Takamine at NAMM, I didn't realize that they are a major player out there...quality but still not unreasonable prices. And, as an a/e, they have the great cool tube. This last NAMM, I spent time at the Martin exhibit, then Takamine, then back to Martin. They are not less expensive copies. After NAMM, I bought the Tak Nashville TVN360SC with the new -2 cooltube. Getting more play than my Martin D-25K2 and the HD-28VS.
Again, as said many times...different flavors. Those of us at the OFC have supported Ovation and Adamas as we recognize the tremendous value for the price...those same factors lead some of us to Takamine.
Guess it goes back to what the Crazy Cajun used in an election (with a slight twist)...Its the guitar stupid (not the brand)
and, no, not calling anyone here stupid  |

Takamine makes fine guitars , Cool -tube technique works well , some stomps use it too ..
Vic
..Yet !!..I maintain that an Ovation is The stage -guitar.. :) |

| Dat be da one. I have one (not with the Baggs PUassy) and would compare it very favorably to a D-18 (or a newer D-28) soundwise, only prettier with the bearclaw spruce & abalone rosette. |

The LTD couldn't be sold immediately anyway so I had some time to come up with the $, but I think I'll pass on that one. I would rather have a great player than a wall hanger, so I'll pass on the LTD I think.
If this one's still available in a week, I think I'll give it a new home. |

At the half way point I was still in freaking TX! Coming across NewMex is a blast. I had the M5 and they're so busy watching the boarder that they don't pay much mind to the freeway. Gas mileage is pretty crappy when you run triples for any length of time. I probably couldn't afford to do it at todays prices.
Marathon lottery is coming up soon and that'll decide it for me as far as that weekend goes. We've got clients in Austin so flying down is no problem. Wow, maybe the OFC tour is that same weekend ???
