Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | The 1990 1688-5 arrived today. Really nice condition and nothing major to do: I took off the old strings, replaced the battery holder which had come loose in transit, cleaned the dust, wiped down the tuners, adjusted the neck and removed one shim, installed new set of D'Addario EXP38's, tuned several times, and played...what a guitar...great resonance (the 95 Top Freq. helps there), plays like butter (the neck adjustment and removal of the shim worked wonders), and looks fantastic! Lots of brass highlights in the top will look great under the lights...guitar has only just a few bruises on the upper back of the peghead, and one minuscule dent on the back of the neck (can hardly feel it) and one or two other minor bumps not worth mentioning...I suspect that the needed neck adjustment and shim removal added to and fixed the reasons for its sale from the original owner...guitars have to be maintained...
After selling it's '88 twin two years ago, I am glad to have it and sure enough: the gas station guy's sig. is right there where it should be...
Here are a couple pic's and the link to the Ning folder...

Personally, I'm glad to see it there...it's really a hallmark of quality...
I have California guitars with another sig inside them...
However: The cool factor is nowhere near the same...(and I've never met him...or been invited to his place)...
I'll stick w/the gas station guy... |

HEY! Don't be dissing the leader of the club that's made for you and me. And EVERYone is welcome in the Happiest Place On Earth.
Betcha didn't know that it was a young Moddy that put those things together.
Oh yeah, nice looking 12-er. Bet it sings like a choir of angels. Perfect for your line of work. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | That signature may have been the only handmade thing on those California guitars. Then again, maybe they have a CNC machine do the signature, too. |
