Location: Philadelphia | I fell in love with the sound of my Ovation 1751 twelve string (1997) that I just bought. I bought it to just have a 12 string layin around, well anyway, I like the sound of it better than my Martin dc16rgte (not just because its a twelve). The rosewood in that guitar makes it really bassy. Its loud as hell, but I'm tired of its "boomyness." Well anyway, I've only been able to play celebrities at the guitar store, there was one TX I played and I liked the sound but I'm not into the Goth thing.
I am looking at either an american or korean standard balladeer, there are some old stock USA LX ones out there that are running about $1100, only interested in the deep bowl. There are the AX models, the 2771, that are made in Korea. Those are running about $700.
Is the USA version that much better, Is it worth the extra $500 to get the USA model?

With the New Old-Stock USO you get a Lifetime Limited Warranty.
(providing it is in-fact a New O from an authorized dealer)
If you ever need any repair work you will be able to send a USO to the MotherShip for repair.
Even without the warranty, you can send a USO back to the Factory for repairs...
New Hartford won't touch a Korean Ovation or Celebrity. (neither will most guitar shops)
USO's have a bolt-on neck which can be reset, AX's do not.
For "historic" reasons you might want to get the USA Ovation...
Cuz it looks like there won't be any Production USA Ovations in the future.
Yes, some may wanna argue the point... But the writing is on the wall.
Ovations will be import guitars unless it is a Custom Shop Order.
I am not Positive about this... But it seems like there are NO Deep Bowl Korean AX's.
AX's have Contour, Mid, and Super-Shallow... But no Deep bowls.
So if you can afford it, you get the USA Ovation.
Later, if you need a neck reset, you will be Glad that you got the USA Ovation...
(instead of the Disposable Korean AX)
Hope that helps. | |
