Location: Columbus Ohio | ...well in a way- i've been looking at the pages here for a couple months now and decided i should man up and join...
I'm 22, been playing 8 years... had tons of guitars over the years- most of them were cheap ones or projects- until this March- when i picked up an '77 Ovation 1612-1 off of Craigslist for $100... i haven't even thought about another guitar- now all i want is a damn good collection of Ovations...
meh- might as well- here's my past and present collection:

1977 Ovation 1612-1 Balladeer :D
2003 Silvertone SIK-1 electric (Evil Dead guitar)
2003 Shadley custom made electric hollowbody
1970s no name MIJ Model no. 455 classical
1970's Suzuki Classical guitar

1980s Harmony acoustic (my first guitar)(gave to my grandpa to get him back into playing)

Location: GA USA | Welcome Shad. Every once in a while I go over to ebay and look at Harmony, Kay, Silvertone, etc electrics. Some of those guitars are cool looking. Congrats on your Ovation.

Location: Columbus Ohio | well... i got rid of my Vox a couple years ago to appease my money grubbing (now) ex girlfriend... in hindsight- not a very good choice...
and my roommate just got me the First Act amp for X-mas... it's decent for playing in your room- but... yeah... i'd be embarassed to take it out of my room (someone might see me with it, point and laugh...)

| Welcome, Shadley! It's nice to see someone here who thinks the Vietnam War is ancient history ;) . Most of us here are a bunch of old farts who fell in love with Ovations when they first became THE guitar to own because of their pioneering breakthroughs, before everyone else jumped on the acoustic-electric bandwagon. Nowadays most people your age ignore them because of all the ignorant comments from people who've never actually played them and dismiss them as "canoe paddles." As you found out for yourself, you'd have a hard time finding a better built, playing and sounding guitar for the money.
Stick around, ignore our crankiness (remember most of us hover around the half century mark) & soak up the incredible amount of knowledge about all guitars, not just Ovations, this group has. And for sure we'll talk you into getting more Ovations/Adamas, but know that none of us would steer you wrong. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Hi Shadley. Stick around. There are some very knowlegeable folks contributing to this forum. You'll learn a lot and, more than likely, spend a little, too. A lot of these members have some incredible guitars, along with other equipment, and get bored quickly, so the rest of us get lucky and score when they decide to have a yardsale. |

i'm really in love with the Ovations i've played- my 1612-1's playability is much better (in my opinion) than any PRS or Les Paul i've tried out- unfortunately there were downsides when i bought it- a finish crack on the top (going from the bridge to the edge- probably cause the guy had the top 2 strings [somehow] tuned an octave too high each) and the electronics aren't working... i'm not sure if it's something to do with the jack (kinda thinking it is from the noises i get when i plug it in and jiggle the jack)- i haven't looked around in it to figure it out...
i figured for now i'm good just playing it acoustically...
i found a 12 string CS245 on craigslist- guy's wanting $175- in your opinion is it worth it (i'm sure someone will give me the wise answer of "it's an Ovation- of course it is") |

| Celebritys are OK, they just don't usually compare to USA-made Ovations in tone and volume, and the hardware, top wood and overall build quality isn't quite as high. Celebs are the entry-level lines made in Korea and their price reflects their quality. Don't get me wrong, Celebs can be nice, and the occasional one has that extra mojo that makes it comparable to a US O, but usually not. |
