Location: Alpine, CA | I'm interested in the Ovation 2058TX acoustic/electric 12-string guitar? From what I've read, it's manufactured in the Far East. Does anyone have any opinions about it? Do you think it's worth $659?
Thanks in advance. |

Location: Utah | The T guitars are great sounding guitars. One of my daughters has the 6 string USA made black T with deep contour bowl, and it sounds as good as any other guitar we have. The T does have it's own tone within the Ovation universe, and it is excellent. The neck on the T is slim and fast.
The OpPro preamp is excellent, no deficiencies at all.
But I haven't seen the TX in person to be able to comment on the workmanship quality and whether it is commensurate with the price. In that price range I want to see good fit and finish, and good fret work. Sound wise, acoustic and plugged in, it is going to be better than any competition in that price range.
You'd probably pay a similar amount for a used USA 12 string T, if that gives an indication of what people think of the T.
(my opinion is worth what you paid for it, ymmv) |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I can't speak to the overseas models, but I'll add a comment about the USA models, and more specifically, the 1778T-RF. I bought this guitar because of how clear a similar model sounded at an OFC group get-together a few years ago played against a number of other guitars then available. I also really liked the custom paint. I have a lot of gear, including some of New Hartford's finest. My wife is a classically trained musician with multiple degrees in vocal performance. She has been a paid soloist for over 40 years and knows more about music and tone than I ever will. In a blind sound test against all my other gear, her preference is the 1778T. It has its own unique voice which I recognized at the OFC gathering, and which she says just speaks to her. Of course, YMMV. |
