Anyone ever use 12 string sets heavier than 10 to 47?

I wouldn't go over .010's on a 12 string.

Bit of overkill, don't you think?
Straining should be enough.

I have alwasy used 12 to 52 on my Guild until last week. Tuned to standard. I put a set of elixir 10-47 on it last week and it sounded like crap the high end was thin and muddy, So bad I didnt even like playing it. so I switched out th 6 on the high side w/ a set of daddario med. 12-16-25/10 and it came back to life. The low end is was not as good as the med. but I can live w/it and besides I hated to waist a whole set of strings.

Try the Med. you might be surprised. and if you dont think the body can stand the strain tune it down and capo but the Jumbo Guild with the double truss rod is holding up just fine.

12s on a 12'ver? Thats a lot of tension on the bridge. I'll stick with 9s or 10s.

Yes, but don't tune to standard tuning. Go C-C or at least D-D and capo.

Very strong sound. To do it right though you should re file the Nut to accept the larger sizes and thus make it difficult to go back.

as I mentioned, the factory supplied my 2080D longneck 12 with 10-47s.

I assume they know best so that is what I keep on mine. Sounds nice and tight tuned D-D.
