Location: Nashville TN. | I saw ads for USPS being cheaper on shipping. I was going use them. They weigh the box ..... say its 18 pounds quotes $39 for Priority Mail
$19 for Parcel Post.
Ok I'll send Parcel Post.... oh wait its over sized .....
Its $107.00 for Parcel Post and take a week to 10 days to get there. OK spending that much...off to Locust Street in Hartford.....
So I see what Brown can do for me........
Well package lost 2 pounds on the 8 minute drive.
I was 16 pounds, but again oversized...... $70 to ship to Texas and will be there on Friday.
I do not remenber shipping cost this much.....
I don't remember ever paying this much shipping.
Shipping for My Country Artist was only $35 from California. This is going 1/2 that distance to Texas.... |

| Should be around 47x20x9 and weigh between 18 and 24 lbs depending on the guitar. If you have a fedex account on line, it is usually the cheapest. I just shipped a Dred to Oregon from Fl for about 48 bucks with 1.5k insurance. |

This doubled the cost of shipping from $25-35 up to $50-80. |

I guessing larger accounts get lower shipping costs?
Music Go Round Ohio to CT was $25
Guitar Center California to CT was $35
That was less than a month ago on both....... |

That is the box used by Grhun Guitars shipped me the Nashville Flood Guild F512.
Pawless Guitars (very small builder $2000 to $3500 price range) is going to repair it.
He uses Honey Mesquite on bodyies they sound great.

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Just shipped an exhaust system from Denver to Prescott AZ in an Ovation carton using USPS Parcel Post. 37 pounds, not oversized (I think the threshold was 107" whereas the Ovation box was something like 78" total), and the cost was $20 plus change. I thought it was a bargain, and it arrived in four business days. |

Location: Texas | FYI, despite appearances and the implication otherwise, 'UPS Stores' are apparently not company-owned, and they mark-up the actual UPS rates substantially, just like any other "shipping store." (I found that out the expensive way recently… )
Pez, an individual can't expect to pay anything near the shipping rates of those large retailers you mentioned, they have discounted contract rates based on volume. |

I thought it was L+W+H, in which event the external measurements of Miles' box would total 80", which is clearly under the parcel post limit of 108". This is how they measured my recently shipped box. |

Location: Tidal Mudflats of Virginia | With USPS, it also depends on where you put the address info. If it's on the small end, that's considered the length, if it's on the largest panel, that side is considered the length. Was a difference of $45 on the last guitar I shipped a couple weeks ago... |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | OK ... One thing I haven't seen here (unsless I somehow missed it) is the issue of safe handling and damage claims. I've heard SOME complaints about UPS on damage claims, although I did have success on mine. But MY experience with USPS was a nightmare. Since it's associated with the government, there is that endless bureaucratic paperwork trail to go through. I have still done it for shipments to Hawaii(overnight), but that isn't my preference. Anyway... If there's any doubt about shipping safely, I'll avoid it. |

Location: Tennessee | I shipped an Ovation (in a case) from California to NC yesterday. Used a standard Ovation box, and even included a couple of lacrosse stcks and balls. USPS was $28 plus $6 for insurance. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | As far as I know, the only advantage of USPS is when you ship to Hawaii, Alaska, and Overseas. I recently shipped a guitar to Hawaii and it cost about $40 less than the other guys ...AND I was able to send it Express Mail (:
I was pleasantly suprised early this week, when I shipped a large keyboard in hard case, with a second package containing a heavy-duty stand and other stuff.(68 lbs + 29 lbs) I was afraid I had under-estimated the shipping cost in my Ebay ad, but the total came to only $59.(with $1500 insurance) - UPS. |

Of course, my kids don't qualify for any assistance and tuition doubled for them in the last couple of years.
