You are completely free to vote for Pez, or for someone else, or not vote at all. I really don't see anything wrong with one of our active members notifying us that they are participating in such a contest, particularly when it is an Ovation-sponsored contest that promotes Ovation guitars. |

Having said that I didn't like it when JJ went trolling for votes either.
Just trying to be consistant with my beliefs. May the best video win..... |

If you have to tip the balance by trawling for support, rather than relying on your talent and abilty, then I would consider a win something of a hollow victory. While it may just be a social-networking marketing excersise, if it's just down to how many of your friends you can coerce it's pretty meaningless. I mean, there might be someone out there, who is less savvy at networking, who could really represent the brand to a cool, hip audience. |

| Well, if we are going to turn this into a discussion, respectfully of course, then, I personally believe, Home Town Hero is the wrong title for this contest.
Maybe, a fire fighter who plays guitar being recognized for saving a life.
A soldier sitting in the sand box aka (Iraq) playing a guitar to entertain his fellow soldiers.
yeah, Home Town Hero is in my opinion the wrong title for this contest. |

The biggest mailing list will win. Its not a talent contest in way shape or form. |

Pez is a long-standing member here, he asked for your vote, just do it or don't, it's up to you, it's that simple.
Implying that it is cheating or unfair to solicit votes here or anywhere else is disingenuous. You all know darn well how the world really works. The OFC is a social network, what's wrong with soliciting support within your social circle?
I agree that the name of the contest is a poor choice and inappropriate, but that's not remotely Pez's fault. With all due respect to our real hometown heros; if you feel strongly about the name of the contest, start a new thread, or, better yet, tell Ovation how you feel instead of hijacking his thread…
Good Luck Pez…

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Awww... During the Ovation Instructional Video contest I voted for JJ, DB, and others everyday.
And I believe that JJ and others voted for me everyday.
I wish I still had the YouTube video of me doing Needle and the Damage Done at Apple Music...
DVD filmed it with his phone and put it up on YT, apparently he took it down or closed his YT account.
Plus, YT closed-down one of my accounts... I had two and they closed one. :( So I lost some of my other videos...
I lost me doing Stairway for Dummies with the Flame T.
I also lost me doing Hallelujah on the Uber-Deacon.
Anyway... That Roadshow video had the Ovation Banners and such in it.
I can always make another one... Use my Adamas or Flame T or Sweet T...
Or the Woody Uber-Deacon! Something special.
Maybe a cool, special guitar will garner some votes, even if my playing is not-so-special ;) |

OM Arthur, I saw yours on the Flame ...love finger-pickers!! PEZ, good strong show. Anyhow, the Roundback Road Show is coming to my quiet village of Ottawa tonight and I'll swing by and see the festivities of course...so far there's only one guy signed up for the Heroe contest. But I was raised on the hard-scrabble east-end of Toronto and have friends in low places, so I can go "Pete Seeger on Dylan" to see that that this heroe never reaches the stage if it'll help the community. |

Just counting "hits" & "likes" allows Ovation to quantify the results with real numbers without having to get into the foggy area of personal opinions.
But it is what it is.
.
As far as the use of the term "hero", I think they're hoping to tie into the "Guitar Hero" mindset. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | It's just a play on popular American "culture" (and I use that word very sarcastically). You get on American Idol or Dancing With the Stars and you try to get the public to vote for you so you win a prize. I only watched DWS for possible wardrobe malfunctions, but the thought of that happening with Kirsti Alley caused violent wretching, so I couldn't watch last season. I don't usually participate, watch or vote for any of these things, but I did think JJ's instructional video was one of the best that I watched. |

Just counting "hits" & "likes" allows Ovation to quantify the results with real numbers without having to get into the foggy area of personal opinionst. I think it is set it up as you suggest. From the official rules:
"At the end of the Contest Period the third party judges designated by Sponsor will select one winner of the Hometown Hero of the Year award. The Entrant will be judged based on application, entrance materials, talent and page sharing and Facebook likes." So the "voting" by the public plays only a small part in determining the winner, it probably just gets their foot in the door, more like a nomination than a vote…

They should have considered that dropping "guitar" left them with a phrase that has a completely different meaning that is inappropriate for a guitar contest.
But, as you said, it is what it is…

| My submission has finally posted, won't post it here, but I will tell you it goes in a completely different way than any one else's.
Also, if by some slim chance in Hades I do win, I won't be keeping the guitar.....Some Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Or Marine will get it! |

Like I said, it's not what you'd expect, but it will shed more light on my earlier comment about the Hometown Hero title.

| Two of those guitars were memorial guitars, sent in memory of fallen soldiers, one of the guitars....the red one, did two tours of duty in Afghanistan, and was brought back by an Army unit, sent to be professionally set up again, and presented to the fallen soldier's mother....An Army Chaplain personally brought it from Washington state to Michigan to present the guitar to her, and tell her how much it meant to the troops.
I know to most of you this sounds like blasphemy, but a $3,000.00 hunk of wood, would mean a lot more in the hands of a soldier than in mine. |

I think people want to see guitar the guitar is. 1777-USA is not common sight.
I put a link signature line in on emails, and I on 20 yahoo discussion groups. Put a post on forums
a dozen or so forums. I 6000 people on myspace.
Plus its humourous song that people seem to like. |

Youtube takes the video down then suspends your account if you try that. If you get over 100,000 views you get revenue off the video. Plus even if knew how to run up a counter if I break 100K views Ovation would get the check not me.
I have no motivation to do that.
Its just a good song people passed the around. |

I can't remember what guitar I used for the electric portions of the video, the acoustic stuff was actually done on one of the guitars before it went to Iraq. It was the old Harmony Mahogany acoustic that is near the end of the acoustic portion....I cheated tho, I tuned to open E minor and so I could strum and solo at the same time. |
