Hope he is allowed to make a graceful exit. |

http://www.indystar.com/article/20110605/ENTERTAINMENT/106050377/Re...
I thought to myself, something must be wrong. I have seen him do interviews recently that seemed a little disjointed, but at 70 something he probably has lost interest in answering the same questions he was asked for the last 40 years.
Being my boyhood idol, I am saddened by this news. He is a tremendous musician and the reason a lot of us play Ovations. |

I had the honor of meeting Glen and speaking briefly with him at NAMM earlier this year. He's a Legend and this is going to be a tough thing for a lot of people who love him ... but fortunately, he does have a lot of people around him who love him. He's a very lucky man in many ways. |

Though he didn't have a choice between Alzheimers and ALS he said that if he DID, he'd choose ALS.
It's sad, but Glen's lived larger than most.
Made a lot of people happy and did his best.
And that's the best you can do. |

He just wants everybody to know that he just has Alzheimer's, he ain't Drunk.
Therefore, if he forgets a line to a song it ain't cuz he is High.
It's just cuz he is getting Old!
Just means that he will be lightening his concert schedule.
I hope that I am in such good shape when I am his age... in 21 years. |

Thanks Moody for saying the kind of thing I'd been trying to myself.
Mentioned my late buddy a bit before; that was his main complaint
about LIVING with a fatal condition.
Everyone walks on eggshells and is so damned sombre and weepy.
There's still all sorts of gallows humour to invoke,
and where the hell do you think it comes from?
Laugh at death and it shrinks in size.
fletcher, think you can make it to Damons' in August?
I can teach you to play bagpipes to every song you've ever known.

Take a look at my signature. The date is the day that a good friend (and a member of this board) died. I worked hard until that day to always put a smile on his face and make him laugh. Can't do that being down..... |

It is frustrating right now, especially, not to be able to check in and commiserate. |

No, I don't think so. The site has been appropriated by Surfdog to direct any traffic (which right now would be more than usual) to a promo page hawking the new record. I have never seen a marketing approach like this before. |

What is a website to any commercial artist BUT a method of moving product? Modern artists use it as part of the whole process of connecting to their supporters, yes. But we're not talking about a modern artist.
(and, of course, there is the not-inexact perception that marketing people have no shame... ...that the easily shamed would notice.) |

If I was Surfdog, I would not want to be in a position when I could be perceived by Glen's legions of fans as being insensitive, mercenary, and opportunistic. I know it was billed as Glen's final album already, but still, things are different now that they've gone public. Glen's got some real good people around him, and they'll make sure things are done right. |

You WERE so lucky to get to meet him when you did! That's a great photo. I seem to remember one with him and Brad (Professor BB) too ... that's was also a very good shot. My favorite of all of his hits is "Gentle on my Mind" and of course "By the Time I Get To Phoenix" ... my siblings and I used to line up on the floor in front of the television to watch his show, 'cause Mamma would NEVER miss that program. The good part of it all is that G,C, has always been a gifted, seemingly down-to-Earth, successful musician/performer that brought MUCH, MUCH happiness to other people.
Sad news nevertheless.
(And Kevin, I mstakenly wrote 'hearts', but alas as far as I know I only have one. If I did have more than one, they would ALL surely be hurting, my friend). I am thinking of you; every day).

January, 2007 . . . he did a concert backed up by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra at Boettcher Concert Hall in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, where I have a little influence. Stephen and I and our wives went back stage before the concert and took some photos with him and he signed one of my guitars I had stashed next to his dressing room. Then we had front row center tickets for the concert. He recognized us during the show and stuck the microphone in our faces during Rhinestone Cowboy. I hope we didn't disapoint. We saw him again last year when he appeared at the Denver Botanic Gardens concert series and I met his wife and daughter. He was a real showman.

Location: Indiana | It is indeed a sad moment. I still have my first Glen Campbell album - that I bought in 1968 - when I was 12 years old.
I have had the good fortune of seeing him in concert three (3) times - once sitting front row center. The last time I saw him was in Nashville a couple of years ago where my son and I were honored to sit at a table with Ralph Emery and his lovely wife Joyce. This was an experience in and of itself - he shared some great memories.
During the concert, there were a few moments where Glen seemed distracted or would ask what key a certain song was in - I wondered then what was occurring.
He is the reason that I own and play Ovation guitars.
Having watched my grandmother go through Alzheimer's, I can only hope that the transition is peaceful for him because I know it will not be easy for his family . . .nor for those of us enjoyed him through the years. |

There were a lot of performers playing Ovations back in the '70's, what happened?
You'd think that in this day and age of going green everybody would be using guitars that used less wood just to save the trees!! |
