Darn you Beal! See what you started?!
I got this on Saturday. And it sounds every, single bit as bad as it looks!
Collings DS-41, Slope shoulder Dreadnaught, (serial # 1488-build started in October, 1994)
* Select Sitka spruce
* 41-style abalone top border
* East Indian rosewood back and sides
* Grained ivoroid binding
* Black/white wood strip purfling
* Multi-color mosaic back strip
* Select abalone rosette
* Pre-war scalloped bracing
* Tortoise-style pickguard
* High gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish
* Mahogany Neck
* Bound fingerboard and double bound peghead
* Slotted peghead with Rosewood overlay
* Torch peghead inlay
* Ebony fingerboard and belly bridge
* 42-style snowflake fingerboard inlays
* Fully adjustable truss rod
* Bone nut and drop-in saddle
* Ebony bridge pins and end pin
* Nickel Waverly slot-head tuners
I've had a K&K pick-up installed as well. Down the road? It'll get gold Waverlies, and it needs a new case.
Lots more pictures can be found on my NING Page.

No, check that. That's a seriously nice guitar. And I'm sure it sounds better than it looks. Congrats. |

Patch, that thing's a work of art man. Whatever you do, don't hide it away man, keep it out and played often!
Congrats |

very nice
now you will have to tell us the truth...
on when you start thinking about the next one......
prof, it's D body expanded so it's 12 frets clear. The OM is shallower and tighter waisted and all that |

There was this beautiful 00-42 Collings hanging in the same shop. And it's cheaper than the Martin 000-42 I've been taking WAY too many looks at.
Sigh.....
The fire sale continues I guess.....

A) Allows for a longer body (more volume in the box) because they don't shorten the neck, they stretch the shoulders two additional frets.
B) This allows them to move the bridge "closer to the center of the lower bout, delivering an open, airy tone with smoothness and warmth not typically found in modern, 14-fret dreadnoughts."
All I know is it sounds spectacular! |

Be a bit hard to play those higher notes for leads with that big body in the way. |

If Collings does NOT offer a redwood top, that should give you a clue.
.
Does Collings offer something with a redwood top?
I could do the extensive & time consuming research but it's a lot easier just to as those who already know. |

Well, I wouldn't go that far! The O's from my personal collection that I was willing to let go are either gone or spoken for already. The rest stay.
I like'em too much. And I have others on my wish list.
I'm on this board for a reason. I really, REALLY like Ovations. And I've had some impeccable guitars pass through my hands to validate my preferences.
And whether Collings offers Redwood or not, it's a bloody fine tonewood and ranks as my personal favorite. :cool: |
