Location: Utah | We'll be in southern New Jersey the first full week of August. The girls will bring their O's and would like to find a place or two to play. It doesn't have to pay, but they wouldn't turn money down!
Basically, anywhere within about an hour of Stone Harbor, which is mile 10 on the Parkway, north of Wildwood and south of Atlantic City. The venue would have to provide a PA, mics, and amps or the ability to plug in their guitars to the PA. Availability of a keyboard would be extra nice since the girls can't bring one on the airplane.
Ideally they would like a 45 minute set, plus or minus. If it is a one-song open mic, well that has to be a lot closer than a full hour drive.
Their style is acoustic folk.
The girls are age 16 and 15, so does anyone know how this affects their legal ability to play in a bar?
On the web there's NJOpenMic.com and JerseyMusic.com (last updated 3 years ago!). If you know of any other resources or have any ideas or suggestions, they would be most appreciated. |

Booking an August gig on the JerseyShore usually requires doing it in Jan/Feb.
OpenMics'll probably be your best bet.
Forget Wildwood. It's a hardcore, "Party" town.
Maybe try Wildwood Crest, Avalon, Ocean City, Somers Point, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle City, . . . . MAYbe Cape May.
try www.jerseyjam.com

Location: Marlton, NJ | Fly - I'll keep my eyes open. I'm sure a couple of the other SJ guys would know better them me. I can provide a keyboard and possibly an amp(s) if you need it. The keyboard is a Casio CTK-611. I don't know where it ranks in the realm of keyboards, but it's got alot of sound options.
My daughter is 16 and would definitely enjoy the show.

Location: Utah | Mike, thanks for the offer on the equipment. All they need in a keyboard is something that sounds enough like a piano to be passable. |

Coffee Works Cafe
It's probably at the edge of your travel distance, but it's a nice place.
This is the general website - they have a link to book a place for you:

The person y'need to get in touch with is KimKeller's Amy. She sings in a couple bands around there (and is a GREAT Lady!!)
Tho' she normally plays a little "North" of where you'll be (AsburyPark-ish), still she may know of some places . . .
You gonna' be in StoneHarbor??
NiceTown!!
I lived/worked in that area for a while.
Lemme do some research, & if I come across anything, I'll fwd it to you.
Also, if y'need a TourGuide (s'pecially CapeMay).
CapeMay County Zoo's a MUSTSee!!! (and it'll be a straight-shot dueWest of you (10-15mins.)
Enjoy yerVisit! |

Location: Utah | Cliff, thanks for the help. I've been visiting Stone Harbor for 41 years this summer! I was but a small child that first visit, and now we take our kids out there. I grew up in central Jersey in Westfield, back when it was a sleepy town. Our house cost $32K when Dad bought it! My how things change.
Asbury Park would be fun. My wife has a childhood best friend living there and we could make a long day of it. How can I get in touch with Ms. Keller?
Beal, what kind of wattage do we need to play the Meadowlands? Perhaps the Garden State Arts Center would be easier to fill with sound? ;) (Trivia for those who care: FlySig played the Garden State Arts Center back in the fall of '77 and sang with Doc Severinsen. 100% true.) |

Then I've been PreachingToTheChoir(pun).
Check with the County ArtsCouncil, as well (it USED t'be called "MAC"-or something).
They could probably clue you in on any local towns doing Community Events with live music in the parks/gazeboes, & such . . .
(btw; I frequented GSAC aLOT!!! - 'specially in '77 . . . I remember Doc being on the schedule that year . . .
. . . did'nt "go", . . but I DO RememberIt . . .) |

Location: Utah | Well, you missed a great show that day! :D It was the Scandinavian/American arts festival, with Doc S. as the headliner. He was very gracious and made it a fun experience.
The party afterwards was equally fun, hosted by Uncle Thor. The "Take it Off With Noxema" girl was there. The girl that did the ads with Joe Namath. Gunilla Knutson. Man, I miss those days of Swedish girlfriends.
