Location: Little Rock, Arkansas | I decided it was time to document info [year of manufacture and any other interesting tidbits of knowledge] on my two older Ovations for my files. One will go to my eldest and one to my youngest upon my exit to that great guitar in the sky. I went to the Ovation website and looked up both serials, and neither matched the picture that popped up. I hope some of you can help me.
The oldest is a 12 string that had a model# of 1615-4. There is another sticker in the bowl that says "Ovation #081536". It's a cool looking Ovation, especially the headstock which is open like a classical model.
The next is an Ovation Elite Model 1768 according to the sticker in the bowl. When I looked it up, I saw a blond finish classical guitar on the O website with more modern electronics than mine. Mine has a tobacco burst with the multiple sound holes on top and bottom. The battery has to be inserted thru a round access panel on the back of the bowl.
Thanks for any help! |

Location: Jet City | I'm not sure what you want help on, but the first 12 string is a Pacemaker built in '76 probably.
The second one is exacly what you described, an Elite (the picture you saw was incorrect). What more would you like to know? |

Location: Little Rock, Arkansas | Many thanks Damon76! The main thing I wanted to know was the date mfd. for them. Secondarily, as I feel my mortality more and more, I was wanting to know any odd snippets of info on either guitar.... stuff like the 12 string was played by so and so, historical etc , to pass on to the kids. I was hoping the 12 string "had a story" that would make it unique, you see both of my kids are fighting over who gets the Elite when I croak. They actually do that in front of me now :-)
Thanks again! |

Location: Spotsylvania, VA | Your 12 String is a year older than my 1977 Pacemaker. Like you, I have been curious as to who had played them in the past. I saw a clip of Paul McCartney using one on the Wings Over America Tour back in 1976. I saw one of the last shows of that tour in L.A. and I do recall when the group sat down to play an acoustic mini-set. Paul had an Ovation. Years later I saw the clip mentioned and it reinforced my belief that I may just have some long term memory left. Sure looked like a Pacemaker to me. Another clip I saw not long ago was of Queen doing, "Love Of My Life," probably sometime in the early 1980s. Brian May was sitting on a stool playing a Pacemaker while Freddie Mercury stood beside him. Pretty close up view of the guitar throughout this video. Although I couldn't stick my head through the TV (and subsequently the sound hole) to date the guitar, it sure did look like one of the two that you and I have. Enjoy yours! Mine goes to my one and only daughter someday. |

I have a minty 1980 1615-1 that I love! Outstanding guitars!
Enjoy!! |

Location: SoCal | It's a GC, 12 frets to the body. The Legend 12's (paddle head, 14 frets) didn't come out until about 79..... |
