Location: Orlando, FL | Kudos Greg! I have enjoyed Jerry's work since the 70's. He has always had great tone and emotion in his playing.
I really like the song. The violin adds a new dimension to some already great music.

Location: Chicago | I appreciate it Zilla! The song came to me quickly, inspired by the refrain of a Soundgarden song ("All my friends are brown and red"). Gotta say, I was pretty insecure laying a "dobro original" on a musician of Goodman's caliber: What if he hates it and tells me so? Luckily, he did not hate it (whew!) and has graciously agreed to do more! |

Location: Newington, CT | Greg: Haven't had much of a chance to comment lately, and I wanted to give Spoonman Strut a few listens before saying anything. It was well worth it! Just a wonderful piece of music!
I've said it before, and it bears repeating: Guitars of Fire and you are world class! This piece just demonstrates it further. It's tightly composed, richly melodious, and projects feelings of spontaneous energy transitioning smoothly to pensive relaxation and back again.
Jerry's contribution to all this is huge. The moods he pulls out of his violin! He can be whimsical, as in the beginning, and switch nimbly to the energy, then right into the warmly introspective.
The guitar foundation that you lay down for him is just right. And that Adamas tone! Of course, it requires someone like you to exploit it to its fullest. Your phrasing and ability to tailor each chord and note according to the required mood are just fantastic.
Spoonman Strut covers a lot of ground! Tastefully exotic, it calls to mind lots and lots of influences. It has a seamless flow from beginning to end that just works beautifully. One of the great things about the song: parts are so easy, relaxed and smooth sounding that they're almost conversational. Then, the next section, you realize how tightly composed it is! There's a lot to this little six-minute piece!
Even more interestingly, it seems to go by in a flash! When I first listened, I thought it was only four minutes or so long! If time flies when you're having fun, then I'm figuring you must have had every bit as much fun playing it as I had listening to it!
I can only imagine what a thrill it must be for you to record with Jerry. He's been a maestro since his Mahavishnu days! I'm thrilled vicariously for you! And, of course, I'm wildly jealous!
Great job on Spoonman Strut, Greg and Jeff...and of course, Jerry! I hope you'll let me know when your CD comes out, so I can get in line to buy! In the meantime, I'll continue to point people to your facebook page and tell them to google Guitars of Fire! |

You can now find "SPOONMAN STRUT" on YouTube (surprise) For what it's worth: later this year Jeff and I will team up with a local nylon-string maestro (Steve Edwards) for a concert dedicated to the 30th anniversary of "Friday Night in San Francisco: Classic Album Live on Chicago's Mayne Stage." We'll perform the full track sequence plus some "bonus" material... I guess we'll have to become the "Chicago Guitar Trio" for that one.... |

Location: chicago | To think Greg and I met on the ovation fan club web site some 5 years ago,our musical sameness is a perfect pairing of two ovations with similar direction.Who would have thought we were only five miles away from each other with a collective playing time of more than 80 years.the intial plan was just to see if we could play some cool songs together that we both found challenge for ourselves to learn.Its taken on a life of its own where the sum is better than the parts.Ive succeeded far past where I ever thought I could be and its only the beggining.Thanks for your kind words fellow ofc members. |
