info on this guitar seems hard to find. I just bought an 83 1669, it has the filler piece inside the cutaway. does someone know how many of these guitars were made? Mine is a dark tobacco burst.

It sounds and plays amazing!

Thanks

To the best of my knowledge they were made for about a year until they had cutaway molds. I have no idea how many were made though. Basically, they along with the 1667 Legend were the first cutaway Ovations. The model number changed when the new cutaway mold was implemented.

Thank you damon67 I wonder, due to the facts that they were only made for a year or so and that they one of the first original to have a cutaway (before the full 1 piece mold) if it makes them valuable ?

I picked mine up for $450.she`s in players cond. no cracks on the top-amazing for an 83 player!

I saw the one you got online I think. You have a guitar that's worth twice what you paid for it for sure, but I don't think the original cutaway thing adds any value really. It's just a neat factoid

I think it must be older than 1983. I remember them making the first cutaways when I worked there, and I was no longer there in '83. I THINK it is probably a '79 if it has the insert.

HI ALISON!

For some reason I was thinking 81. The truss rods had already been removed. Whatever year is was, it's the same as that 1667 I sent your way a couple years ago. Man that thing had some killer mojo to it, I should have never let it go, but I felt it was a bit redundant since I had the 1769 Al DiMeola. That coupled with unemployment, well, I had to say goodbye.

FWIW, the first cutaway was introduced on an Adamas I believe, so maybe it was those you remember.

My 1677X was built in 82 and it has the insert, if that helps.

Hmm...I'm thinking back. There were a few times they had trouble in the bowl shop. Might have needed some cutaways to fill orders and couldn't get them 'cause the bowl shop was behind so they made them "the old fashioned way". I'm really just guessing here, but maybe some gas station guy would remember...
