Hello,
I found this
http://www.nationalmusic.com.au/images/im_p15ovation.jpg

Can anyone tell me what model this might be?
It appears to have the fingerboard scalloped from the 12th fret up.
It is also on page 1 of the Ovation catalog pdf at that site.

Thanks!

Never seen or read about a scalloped Adamas, but I'd love to play one.

BTW the top link is showing "You do not have authority to view ". But the scalloping is very clear on the other link.

There was one for Ricki Ray back in the early 90's but he did the scalloping himself. This other one here is new.

Never played a scalloped board before. Always wanted to try one.

Worke dfor Blackmore... and Malmsteen. They seem to do a decent job on them (even though it's on a strat  )

I kinda think it would be hard not to squeeze too hard and make the notes too sharp. This can happen on my guitar already without the scalloping. Sliding up and down he fretboard must be a bit more bumpy too.

Actually, one of the custom Adamas built for a Hong Kong artist by the name of Paul Wong has part of the fret board (I believe above 12th) scalloped. When I spoke with him in his studio in HK, he mentioned his vision (borrowed from the electric guitar family) and asked Ovation if it was possible. The rest, as they say, is history. I find interesting playing it, although you can certainly ignore that fact and play it normally.

Supposedly the big advantage of scalloping is that up to 2 full tones are easier to bend - like McLaughlin with his scalloped Schecter in Shakti. Beyond that they are supposed to be really much harder to play - you have to press much harder on the fret to stop a note with the consequent slowing of your playing. Which makes what McLaughlin and Malmsteen achieve even more mindblowing.
Coincidentally I'm off to see the John McLaughlin Trio on the 31st and then Malmsteen sometime in June.

What McLaughlin Trio? Are you talking about 4th Dimension? That's 4 people unless they "down sized" recently.

I stand (actually sit)corrected. I just got the Pat Metheny Trio Tokyo Day Trip EP today and my mind can't cope with thinking about a Trio and a Quartet all at the same time. Can't really cope with anything anymore.

Ok, let's take it one step at a time.

Who are you going to see? Metheny or McLaughlin?

I guess I should point out that I'm seeing Malmsteen for free. I wouldn't pay. And I'll be wearing earplugs.
