I was selling a guitar (non-O) on CL and got an offer for a trade. A 1979 Balladeer, model unknown. But he did say it had the original electonics and pickup and was orange-ish in color.

Assuming its in good shape? Any ideas on the model and possible value?

Tough room.... Ok, let me ask this.

I can only find 3 Balladeers made in 1979:

Standard Balladeer 1111
Custom Balladeer 1112
Custom Balladeer 1612

Did the 1111 & 1112 come with pickups from tha factory? I know the 1612 did.

Hey Joe,
The 1111 & 1112 are straight acoustics....the "6" in the 1612 means it has a factory pickup.

I have a '78 1112 (my very first Ovation and a great sounding handlaid deep fiberglass bowl guitar)

The visual difference between the 1111 & 1112 is that the Custom has the fancy diamond & dot fretboard inlay markers (like a Legend but without the bound neck) where as the Standard only has the basic dots.
Other that that they're the same guitar....

As far a trade goes....you didn't mention what your non-O was. Does it have a pickup? How much are you asking for it? Do YOU think YOU would like a Ovation better? etc.

With a factory pickup it sounds like a 1612....Ask him what the fretboard looks like!

Its hard to get info on the Balladeer. He has been in Costa Rica for the last 5 years and the Balladeer is here in the states (closet kept). He will be here in 2 weeks. I know... crazy.

The non-O is a 2003 Michael Kelly Patriot Q (a Les Paul-ish styled electric with split coil humbuckers). A great looking and playing guitar. I'm selling it for $300. The guy with the Balladeer wants to buy or trade. If he likes it its up to me whether or not to sell it or trade.

He said its a natural orange color. I'm thinking its a burst. Is there another color besides natural? Also, what is the bowl? I prefer SSBs.

I love Ovations. My Elite-T is my main player. I prefer cash, but if his trade is in good shape and worth it, I would consider it.

It's most likely a deep bowl. The SSBs started in 83. If it's in good shape it might be a fair trade.
