Hi Guys

Sorry, I know I'm a pain in the ass!

Random question, is it possible to swap and change pick ups in Ovations? Ok, obviously if you wanted to change a very old one for a very new OP Pro, then it may be a bit silly, cutting holes in a wonderful guitar! But, is it possible to change from one model to the next? say, one without tuner to one with?

Thanks for any random replies :p

If there is nothing wrong with your current pre-amp, then why not just plug into something like a Para Acoustic DI or something similar that would have a tuner in it. or just use a clip on tuner.

I have found that even the original FETs provided quality output (comparing to the OPs) and modifying with something like the Baggs provided me a LOT more opportunities to shape to the sound I wanted compared to the OP Pro I had on my Elite LX plugged straight in...which I never did.

just my .02

If you have a single or stacked knob...and you end up modifying to a OP...I would be interested in taking it off your hands.

I've upgraded a lot of old guitars to the last generation preamps, you can see some of them on my ning-page, link is below in my signature.
You can do anything change for the other and it will work, but...... in my opinion the new FET-Stereo Preamp built in the current Adamas' models, is the best you can get. The OP's are very good too but I also like the Optima's. They are wonderful for gigging on stage.
Let me know what you want to do, so maybe I'll be able to give you a better advice.

Wow Bernie what a page man! You have some great stuff there!!
Jay, I haven't got a "current amp" yet...but I will have at the end of this month. It will be the OP24, just looks like a knob and 3 controls, pretty basic, Bass, Mid and Treb...which is fine, and has suited me for years on my Tak, I was only wondering if I get to wanting one with a tuner on it...could it be done, and thanks to you blokes it seems the answer is yes. :)

I think you can change it to an Optima without drilling another hole and if you want you can add a XLR output unit.

Ok cool. By the way, does anyone use the OP24 just straight? I'm guessing it's pretty good, it's an Ovation after all....

Ciao Martinez,I'm a your neighbor (I live a Venezia,Italia). One of my two Ov is a recent acquisition : a '87Collector.The OP24,is a old preamp. But, I've read in old posts, he is pretty similar to the OP-PRO.Indeed, many say it is better than the OP24 +.Pity that he does not have the tuner. For me, it works very well.It would be interesting to see a photo sequence of a disassembly for maintenance .... ;)
