Mike Seguin from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada here. I have not posted anything here for quite some time, due to health reasons mainly, but thank God,I am still playing my Ovation guitar! I just wanted to update my profile and ask a few questions, and get some advice from the community on the new developments I'm facing with regard to my Ovation/other Ovation guitars. So here goes: 1) I have new photo of me playing my guitar on the Ning site, as of Sept.24,2011. Can I post it here,if at all and how do I do that? 2) My Ovation has not been moving at all on this site, but I would like to sell/trade it for another Ovation, preferably a mid-depth bowl, at some point. I was asking $750.00 CDN,w/)OHC, and case cover/ candy, but no takers. I was hoping to make a deal for a 2007 Elite Standard Limited Editon 6778-LXVN-4, but the prices, plus the shipping costs were out of my league. I did consider the possibility of sending my guitar to THE MOTHERSHIP, because it is showing it's age(20 years), but again, same problem. Here's the kicker:- When I went home for our Canadian Thanksgiving,6 weeks ago, I was offered a deal on a 1983 Collector's Series, $800.00 CDN.!!! What would Jefferson do? It's a bit of a head-scratcher, aint it? Any thoughts?

Location: Boise, Idaho | I bought an 83 Collectors for my daughter (born in 83) a few years ago and paid less than half that (unless the exchange rate went crazy in the last few weeks). They produced over 2000 83, so they are quite common. In my opinion they are not the best Collector model, but sound very good for a supershallow bowl, which was the new feature at the time.

Location: Tennessee | Nice to see you around Mike. Glad you're still playing. It's going to be hard to beat the sound of that deep bowl Elite you have! Are you hoping for a super-shallow bowl so it's easier for you to play? The '83 is nice, but there are probably other ssb's that can be had for less money ... BUT ... if the '83C is in beautiful condition, then $800CDN with the case and all the candy is reasonable for both buyer and seller IMO. Let us know how it turns out.
And you can always look at trading nosajp who has a 2005 Collectors (contour bowl) who has been trying to trade for a 1768 for a long time. Check out the For Sale section and find the thread.

Mike Seguin from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada here. Thanks for the replies to my post. I actually did try to The 2005 Collectors when they came out, and found the Contour Bowl was not my cup of tea, so to speak. Nosajp is looking for an Elite Deep Bowl Cutaway 1768-4 that has a pre-amp LATER than the OP-24, which is on mine, soo...? I might give him a shout anyway, just to see where he is at with his situation. The 83 Collectors I've seen is in very good condition, considering its' age, although a basic set-up is neccesary, from being "shopworn", and there are the 2 very small, "finish cracks" behind the bridge. The OHSC is really beat up. Just a bit of Ovation history on this run; Nancy Wilson got #1, 4 other people I know here in the Ottawa Valley got the first 4 sold in CANADA, because the music store I worked in was an Ovation dealer at the time, and the owner got one. Then he ordered another one for a local musician, who was a mutual acquaintance, and still another friend of mine got one shorly after that. I'm not sure of the numbered sequences on these. The guitar I tried out was #8 in the run. It belonged to The Ovation Rep for Eastern Canada, who sold me my first Ovation, a 1982 Custom Baladder, 1612-4. He told me when he got it that it was only the 4th one sold in Canada at the time. He lived in my hometown, and brought my Custom Balladeer, and his 83 Collectors Series to my music studio. He took his 83 Collectors home, after showing it off, of course! He,in fact, had also ordered the ones for the music store I worked in, including the owners, so he knew the history of these guitars. He passed on about 10 years ago, and his wife wants to sell his guitar, and really wants me to get it, considering our past history, so again, it's a bit of a head-scratcher. To the best of my knowledge the 83 Collectors has not sold yet. I can't sell mine, so I can't buy The 83 Collectors, so I am between a rock and hard place. What a conundrum, eh? What would Jefferson do? Any more thoughts, opinions, anyone?

The Elites are hard to equal in sound. If the preamp is a problem for you, you may consider spending a lot less on an acoustic preamp pedal. I occaisionally use the Zoom A21u with any guitars that have the old pre-amps, and find that it really opens up your sound options. 'Just throwin' in my opinion.

You sure you're Canadian?
Or are you from Hull? | |

Mike Seguin here. Thank you all for the reply to my posts. Just so everyone is clear on this; the operative word in my post from Dec.1st, 2011,is "WAS", as in, "I WAS asking", and, "I WAS offered,"etc. Since there are no firm offers here on this site, it's an udpdate on the situation with my guitar, and yes, I had put it in the For SALE Section when I first registerd here, and then en on the NING site. I'm now assuming that no one in the community is interested at this point, but I remain open to any possibilities, including the 1983 Collectors which was offered to me.
As to the long post, yes, I forgot my high school grammar, I should have broken it into 3 separate paragraphs, because it was/is a history of the the forementioned guitar, and someone mentioned that we could post our Ovation stories here. I have been playing Ovations since 1969, so I do have a lot of history with them, and have played/owned/sold at least 5 including my Elite to date. I know it's not a big number, but I do love these guitars, so I'll keep playing them. I did have a 1985 SSB Legend 1867-4, and sold it, and my 1982 Custom Balladeer 1612-4 to get the 1990 1768-4 Elite I have now.I also had a mid-depth 1979 Legend Cutaway 1677-4 at one time, and sold it. YIKES. MY BAD.
Yes, Stonebobbo and bvince, you are right, the big sound my ELITE puts out is hard to beat, and if I can't make a deal for the '83 Collectors, well?.." a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush", eh? The jury is still out on that one. Unfortuately, I can't use any pedals, because I'm "physically challenged";(Is that the politically correct term for it in 2011?), but one of my guitarists buddies might have a solution for that, so we shall see what transpires. Yes, I do know the history of the '83 Collectors, which is why I tried to share it here?! Yes, I AM CANADIAN, from Ottawa, not Hull. Stick a fork in me, I'm done now. More later?

Mike Seguin here again. When I said,"More later?" I didn't think I'd be posting something again here for a while, but I phoned the music store in my home town, and the '83 Collectors is still for sale! So perhaps when I go home for Christmas? I'm thinking it may be a private sale, betwen myself, and the ownwer. But if someone ventures into the music store, and scoops it up before me, well,... you can't blame me for tryin'. I hope I put this in the right place/forum. If not, all of you in the Ovation Community will let me know, right? Thanks.

But people express themselves in different ways so that's how it goes.

| Screen doors, glass plate doors or solid oak; it’s all the same if you have a good pair of steel cap boots.
You’d find the courts up here a bit of a free for all; I usually start singing lurid sea shanties while opposing counsel are making any kind of submissions which might be damaging to my clients.

Yeah, we don't know from screen doors up here as none of the insects are weak enough it would stop them....much like perambulating legless canucks.

I'm not on the site everyday, because my laptop is dying, but it's good to see the Ovation Community is keeping me honest. I'm deleting the wierdness from " Princess" on the Ning site, too. I may be stupid, but I'm not dumb. I do however suffer From G.A.S., and I Am Guitarded.

A belated Merry Christmas(Eastern Orthodox Catholics excepted),and Happy New year to all. This is an update on the situation with My Elite, and the '83 Collectors Series I found. The deal with the '83 Collector fell through, unfortunately because the owner of the music store is being treated for cancer, and so I will stil be using my Elite for a church service this coming February. People actually gave me money to buy the '83 Collector, but the owner of said guitar, and I couldn't make a deal just now. Maybe? "we can work something out" by the time my birthday rolls around in the spring, but I think she went south on vacation, and have no idea when she will return. She has not returned my phone calls since Dec. 23 2011. If the music store closes, she will probably just keep the guitar at her house? Is it time to move on, and forget about The '83 Colector? What would Jefferson do? Any thoughts?
