I received these today! Two of the likely four "Books" that are in circulation with the OFC.
My goal is to post a photographic record of each of these for all to enjoy and to keep the momentum going.

The Books Album

I believe these books were sent into circulation starting in 2007 and that there are two others that have been going since 2003. I started one of those and it had a route sheet attached to the inside cover. I also believe that it received a good drenching while sitting at a doorstep waiting to be noticed by the recipient.

I would like to see those put back in circulation and receive them to record the story they tell.

I wish to make a couple of assumptions and set some guidelines on these books. I feel empowered to do so for the following reasons:
1) I have some level of seniority here having signed on in 2003 and I have started one of the books myself.
2) My post count proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that I truly need a life and purpose... such as this one.
3) I am an obsessive SoB and will pursue the task of documenting and circulating these treasures (that get little respect from the Non-O Fans).
4) I thought of it first.

Having self qualified myself I offer up these guidelines:

A - Books need to move. Take them to wonderful places and take their picture. Then pass them on.
B - Books need to be available at OFC Gatherings.
C - Trinkets should be of little monetary but significant personal value.
D - To take a trinket you must leave a trinket.
E - Keep the "Books" Family friendly.

I will label one of the books "Meuti" for his brilliant idea of putting the Book in a padded cover and for it's European flavor.

The other Book I will label "Ozzie" as it has gone downunder and back.

Please forward any of your Book Shot's to me and I will place them in the appropriate album on the ning site.

Awesome Woody, thanks for tackling the project. If anyone objects to you appointing yourself, consider this post a nomination.... and a vote... and the polls just closed... You win! ;)

I do believe there are two (definately at least one) earlier books in circulation. Actually... not IN circulation... likely set aside, buried, in the "oh, yah" pile with someone.

PRESIDENT? What did I do wrong?

This is a great idea!

I had the pleasure of reading and signing the one on the right...the pinktober hard rock pin and cape cod/black dog are from me.

Standing, I think you may have signed the one on the right, but not entirely sure.

The one with the water damage got it when it was left outside moody's house. It's years since that one was seen.
Is it around now?
Or did some schmuck sell it on ebay when they realised how much the books go for?

Who would buy anything a bunch of crazy people have scribbled all over???!?

I think I signed the one with water damage, but it was so long ago the only thing I'm sure about was that it was a book of some sort, right?

Meuti's Book was here in Brazil, although I didn't see the pics I took (maybe someone took them for trinkets, which really should be the boat keyrings).
So, if you wanna send Ozzie for Summer in Brazil, I may take it boating again...

The Book's are nearly ready to be sent out again. But now they'll go in their very own "Woody" cases, ala Western Red Cedar, Sitka Spruce and some other Leopard-like exotic wood (for Ozzy).

These will also fit into a Medium Flat Rate box.

I have one. Signed on the inside front cover (that might id it since I saw a pic of another that was signed on the outer cover?). This book has been around the world; US, several stops in Europe, some Polynesian islands... I was trying to get a group of us from the Denver area together for a pic but that never happenned. Love the box. Didn't realize that MWoody was the one who built it.

I've added to the book in my possession the 4 mylar logos seen in the photo(s) below. I'm also including a CD-ROM containing the files that can be used to create them in both PDF and EPS formats.

For those wanting to download electronic copies of these files in vector format, they can be obtained from:

Adamas Logo (PDF, EPS)
Ovation Logo (PDF, EPS)

For the fun of it, I stuck one of each of the logos in chrome to one of the inside pages.

I should note that I am putting this artwork in the public domain with no rights reseved by me whatsoever. IOW, anyone can use them for whatever purpose they desire. If you want to use them commercially, I suggest you contact KMC directly to make sure you obtain permission/licensing from them as they are the copyright holder of both logos.

The book projects were fun.
The only problem was that we always reached that weak link in the chain.
And that's too bad.
The book that went through my hands had some really interesting things written in it by members that had it before me.
I think the end game was to have them end up at the Mothership.

.
the Mothership.... sigh.

Actually, I was hoping the copy I put in circulation 5 years ago, would meander back here, someday. Yeah, Brad, I too have sadness over the demise of The MotherShip.

I think what Mike is doing with pics in an album is excellent...even if you read it when you got a book, there are the other books, as well as comments after it left you. I have my own softbound so if I can see the pics of comments, I don't need to have a book sent to me. However, I handed off the book at one of Matt & Davis workshops without signing it...MtnBikerFred said later he signed it for me. Would like to know what he said. Thanks.

However, as there is no 'mothership' (except in our memories), where are the books going to end up? I find it interesting that there is a display of an Elite in the New Hartford airport (per a photo in at least one of the news articles of the closing). What will come of that guitar? If the display remains, maybe one of the books in the display with the guitar. If the display is to be removed, maybe one of the local OFC'ers could check if their is a local museum (not sure how close Patch is but he was often at the factory, closer than us on the West Coast).

As to the guitar at the airport, one of books, etc., has there been any thought about a fundraiser for the 'former' employees that have helped us in so many years (Ovation, Adamas, Hamer)?

An aside, cheap and easy to create a non-profit where donations could be tax deductible. Physical items (i.e., guitar, amp, etc.) could be listed on OFC with proceeds paid to the non-profit. Remember, a lot our posts end up on the internet which itself creates visibility.

I am pretty sure that I could find a guitar that would be appropriate. Maybe something from the 1718-X Garris prototype to an Adamas. Which guitar would be determined by how much Scotch I had in my system.

Keep 'em movin'.
I'd (eventually) like to see the one I originated, for all the travels it's had, in the past 5 years.
It is still a means to remain connected, despite the vagaries of corporate intrigue, and loss, recently.

The one that I sent on is (I believe) the one that Miles is repairing (a corner of the box took a small hit somewhere before it came my way). No idea where the other one is.

That is the one that passed through my home, as well as Brazil and Europe.

I have one. I wanted to bring it to NAMM (yeah I've had it for a bit) but I'll be doing that in a few months. The box needs some TLC which I just haven't had a chance to do, but it's on track.

LOL, a public service reminder that Procrastinator's Anonymous will be having monthly meetings at a time and date to be determined later...

I like the idea of sending them (there are others out there) to Mother.

In fact, Miles... maybe Mother can fix one of the boxes!

Why I bring this up:

1 - I just picked up a good copy from Ebay for $20.00 and was reminiscing.
2 - These are so valuable in the sentimental sense I want to see them shared.
3 - My name is Mike and I am a procrastinating hoarder... and in this pile over here... oh, my car keys!

Yes, I would be very interested in where these items have been, or have been sequestered (in that case, not likely to be revealed!). So, please make inquiries, & try to track down these critters! I would suggest "Plan B", given The Mothership has departed, is to have Alpep & Mr. Ovation keep them, if they can be located.

I do indeed have one of them. If I can refer you to my post just a couple up from this one, that in October of 2016 we were considering sending it to the mothership for possible update repair of box etc.. and maybe some additions to the collection. Things have been sorta fluid since then, up to and including this latest NAMM 2019 show which I was "supposed" to attend. I was going to bring it with me to show off to the folks at DW. I would still like to do this, but at this point, I think I'd like to track down the 2nd book first so they are both in Alpep's or my hands.

The boxes were thrown together by a frustrated woodworker and are probably in need of another role of duct tape.
