I always thought it would be great to have a pink feather guitar...so it looked like you were playing a flamingo. The neck would be, uh, the neck...and the headstock would be shaped like it's head.
But then I saw the Blueberry guitars and they sorta stole the thunder....

I was stoked to see this....until I got to the website. Only open to those in the contiguous US states. grrrrrrr. Sucks to be here in Canada!

What's worse is that right off the bat, I see 2 designs which are unoriginal (ie. copied). I find myself cringing at the thought that some talentless hack can get win, while anything original I have in mind doesn't count.

I had no trouble downloading the software stepchild. If you are using IE, remember to click on the yellow information bar that appears at the top of the page, and once you click yes (to accept), immediately try downloading again.... and good luck!

While I love looking at painted guitars, and really admire the artwork, of the 100's of guitars I've owned, only ONE really has this type of "artwork" and it's special because it's the Singers interpretation of a song he is known for, painted by a famous artist.

Eric Bloom Guitars

I did manage to squeak out one idea that I will try to upload but my Photoshop abilities are limited as well.

Wow Miles. That's damn cool.

Not just for the paint job, but also the BOC/Black Blade/Michael Moorcock connection.

Been friends with E for years and do his websites (webmaster to the stars as he sais).

The whole idea of the artist creating the work based on what the singer feels the song is about was very intriguing to me. The guitar is also a great player. It had to be playable as he delivered the guitars to the owners at concerts and played the applicable tune during the concert. Castellano Music ordered the guitars then they were sent out for paint. As I said, besides being cool art, it really plays well too.

It was pretty cool to see the guitar being played and of course he signed it "Good Health To You." (Only a BOC fan would likely get that reference)

:D

I've been a BOC fan since their first album came out in the early 70's.

The idea of having the guitar customized to the message of the song is really cool.

That's a beautiful and unique instrument, your personal history with Eric and seeing it played on stage makes it makes it a very personal and valued instrument for you. It's a looker, I'm not surprised it plays and sounds as good as it looks.

May not sound as good as Cleartones, but they do promote nimble fingerstyle.
Also really help build the calluses.

Wow...That's Ironic... I was speaking with my mother last night and she mentioned that one of my ancestors invented barb wire. ... or was it that they invented barb wire because of my ancestors???? Hmmm.

... Sorry, I got off topic. Back to "The Contest"

Most of my Ancestors left their point of origin at the end of some kind of firearm or sharp pointy object... make the trip into some barren and dangerous place sound a lot more palatable than having to change their cultural comforts.

I'll give the contest a shot but my Ai skills are really low.

I have made two entries while (obviously) my AI skills totally suck as evidenced by the pure lack of fundemental masking skills.

A lot of you are far more clever and need to take a shot at it!

I posted a couple week attempts to the contest. I'm not much of a designer -- more of a photographer, so I took the easy way out and just used a few of my photos as the designs!

Some nice designs by OFCers.
Anyone else think the template should have been horizontal?

I tried to upload a design about 4 different times, but the site wouldn't receive it. It is the right resolution and format with the transparent background... everything that I could see that they required. I finally just gave up.

I had problems uploading at first too. Everything was perfect for what they specified, but nothing was happening when I hit the "Submit" button. tried it from home on a different computer and it worked though...

Yeah, I wish you had the option to design vertically or horizontally, as most of my photos are in landscape orientation...oh well.

So after getting three rejection emails for not meeting criteria I get a more personal email from the company running the contest. Somehow I un-transparencied my template...

I thanked her for the contest and offered my opinion that they will only get submssions from Graphic Artists and not from Guitar Players since they relied so heavily on the tools needed to submit.

So once again the Marketeers dictate what the Musicians get to see. Where's Cliff when you actually want him to add his two cents?

We need more switch hitters...

There are a lot of really cool entries. There are even a few designs I like a lot. But there aren't too many I would buy a guitar for.

Maybe I'm too old...

+1 While the two idea's I had are not on par with what's been uploaded already, I thought they were worth doing, but I agree, requiring a proprietary format was a little odd.

By choosing two high end, expensive, professional graphics tools to create the designs, they greatly narrowed the entries they would receive.

I'm sure there were a lot of great ideas we'll never see.

I designed/modified this w/ the folks at the New Hartford shop in 2002:

Still holds up as my go-to acoustic. It was originally an Elite Custom Concert...

I couldn't get the tools to produce my ideas for me and give me a file I could submit either. Poor planning on the part of the contest organizers. I have an awesome idea for a design I call Celtic Fusion that in my opinion blows away the previous submissions. I might work it up in the design software I regularly use (been a sign designer 30 years) and submit it anyway even if contest has ended). One thing is for sure, if I win a lottery I will have a Celtic Fusion guitar made regardless. Too bad nobody will see my concept now tho.
