Location: Morristown, NJ | Hey guys. I just had a crazy thought. I have 3 ovations. 2 legends and a balladeer.... My 1767 deep bowl is my favorite guitar to play unplugged - i literally never plug it in. I love ever single thing about this guitar except for the fact that it's a bit heavy. So just now I thought - why not take out the big old heavy op24....?? Is this crazy or stupid or even possible? |

Then I am not sure that the preamp weighs That much. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | If it's that important to you, you could take it out and superglue just the metal cover back in its place. I don't think it will make much of a difference though. My 1537 seems very heavy also, but I wouldn't change a thing on it. |

If you want a lightweight acoustic only guitar, go for a W681-TA!!! Light as a feather and incredible sound and playability. Maybe Al has one left for cheap. Ask him!

Location: Flahdaw | People pay a lot of money for custom guitars with sound ports. I have a Larrivee that I just removed the entire preamp and now have a "sound port." Sounds great (and I can always stick it back in if I decide to).
I say go ahead and remove it...you might really love hearing the beautiful tone of the guitar come floating up to your ears. |

What about taking it all out and cutting a new hole to fit the new lx preamps ( whatever they are called ) ... Has anyone ever done anything like this?
Just brainstorming. I love the sound of the deep bowl but I sometimes don't want to pick the guitar up. |

OK, then. How's 'bout ringing-up Mr. Big and getting one of them-there "bubble-cell" guitar straps he's merchandising? Appears to be getting rave reviews from The Membership for comfort, weight distribution, and ease-of-assembly (made that one up ;-). |

Location: Sydney, Australia | Seriously, from the different Ovations I've played, the K-bar is the main cause of weight. Taking out the preamp is going to make little difference.
If it's a real problem for you put it up for trade. Someone may have a newer guitar that they'd like to swap for it. The easiest way to get rid of the preamp would be to swap someone for a 1117 - there seem to be a number of them floating around. I even had one. |

Location: Morristown, NJ | Ok, turns out most of the weight is around the neck so it's not the preamp. I wasn't aware of the Kaman Bar until I just did some reading up on it. I would never sell or trade this guitar though. Thanks - to some of you anyway - haha. |

Removing the preamp
