Seen that on a couple of 12 stringers. I think the strings touch the plastic if the bridge angle isn't set right, and the cover pops off. Easy to fix if you kept the cover.

Do all Vipers have the black cover? My natural never had one when I got it, but the one I just picked up does. The natural is chrome, and to be honest, I think it would look bad if it did have the black cover.

Those are two completely different bridges. The Black covered one is the older original design, then they moved to the newer Schaller (that say Ovation across the back) models. I think somewhere if you search, we determined there are 4 bridge styles.
