I felt that I had calculated the year and model accurately based on the Ovation website "crack the code" chart , and info from a local guitar shop who recently looked at it. Please provide some more info so that I can correct myself, if need be. |

Location: SoCal | No problem. A Deluxe Balladeer's model number is K-1016. This is from a brochure from 1968. My 1968 DB doesn't even have a model number, it just says (on a rectangular label inside the guitar "Deluxe Balladeer".
The model number for your guitar is 1112. That is the model number for a Custom Balladeer. It would have inlays like a Glen Campbell model, but no neck binding. I would also guess that it has the label inside that looks like metal, but isn't. The model number is in the upper right hand side of it.
Also, a guitar built in 1968, if it has no letter in front of it, would have only 4 digits, not 5. From the reference page, it looks like your guitar was probably built in 1973.
Lastly, a DB has a shiney bowl. Bet your's is textured.

Location: Scotland | Moody's right, the serial number puts it around '73, which makes it a Custom Balladeer. There's a few differences betwen the 2. A '68 deluxe Balladeer has slightly simpler inlays, probably a shiny bowl, inlaid rosette, 5-point rosewood bridge & Grover machines. The deluxe balladeer from that time would have the model code K-1016. Later they added a bound fingerboard and the model number became 1117. The 1117 Deluxe Balladeer was renamed the Legend and the 1112 was introduced around '72 as a gap-filler between the Legend & Balladeer |

Location: Utica, NY | Thanks to both of you! Moody's description fits perfectly, so I guess I stand corrected and will edit/update my listing. Can either of you give me a "ballpark" fair market value for this guitar with original hard case? I've only been playing for about 4 years. I love the sound and feel of this guitar, but am looking at a used acoustic electric and unfortunately can't really afford to keep both. Thanks again for sharing your expertise. |

| FWIW .. I have a 1973 Ovation ... 1112-4
I can't find proof of the year model, but I was told it was a 1973 by Kim Keeler at Ovation, when I sent it in to have a new bridge put on in 2002.
According to Ovation, the 4th digit, (the "2" above) is a "Deluxe Baladeer.., not a Custom Baladeer.
It has always had the "textured" back, which was repainted by Ovation when they did they work in 2002. The bowl is 5 13/16" deep, and at that time was called a "Deep Bowl" .. Now I think Ovation calls it "Standard Bowl."
It has the glued on rosette, and diamond shaped inlays as fret markers, with one round inlay at frets 12 and 19 as well.
I bought the guitar new at Ron LaGrand Music in Garden Grove, Calif. In Feb of 1975, as new old stock.
Just wanted to pass along some facts about my old friend .. :) |

| sorry folks, I thought I was responding to some misinformation about the 1112-4 ... I did not realize I was in a "for sale" part of the forum.
This thread just popped up when I did a google search of my model #1112-4 ... and the information seemed incorrect to me, so I posted my info to help any misunderstanding ...
