I'm just curious. I have an Ultra GP and have thought about selling it. What are they worth?

well they are usually between $1,400 to $2,000. It just depends on how well taken care of it is.
Yeah you gotta really love em to buy one.
The one that just sold on Ebay sold for like 2,029 and that was in mint condition all that was missing was an nob.

So what color is your GP? What your story behind it?

I just sold one to a gentleman from the UK for $1,750 with original case. Very nice guitar. Bought it at a flea market for $70 a few years back.

They are worth nothing. But I'll give you a shiny rock and $20 'cause I feel bad for you.

I bought it about 10 years ago from a music store that was going out of business. It had been in it's original shipping box and misplaced in the back room behind some boxes. I guess it has been there for years and forgotten about. Anyway I'm the first owner. It has just one very minute ding in the headstock. Its cherry sunburst. I really like it but just never play it anymore. Not sure whether to sell it or keep it. I have 2 other Ovation acoustics.

Oh yeah, original case too. I think I'll put it on ebay with a minimum in a week or two.

Greg there's not much fight in me since I just found out I'm getting laid off in late December, right after my back surgery too. 2003 sucks! Anyway, chances are I won't be your main problem in the bidding war.

hi ickygoo, that was just a joke with the fight. really, for you 2003 must really suck.the loss of your gp's, pain & surgery. i wish you fast and painless recovery from your surgery. I know the stitching pain in the back.

but back to the gp, I hope somebody of this board is winning it and that the guitar is not ending up in a show-case or in the hands of a 15 year old spoilt punk being a toy for 10 days and then ending up in a corner of the room ( a story that was told me by a friend)

may the best one win ( perhaps I won't bid then your chances would be bigger and I wait till the next black one is for sale)

Greg, thanks for the kind wishes. Oh and I didn't really loose my GP's, that was just my way of getting out of spacemonkey's $15 offer. I did loose one this year when someone stole my truck. I had just gotten home from band practice and I had my GP in the back (I had a shell on the bed). I figured I'd get it in a little bit. I was home for less than an hour and my truck was gone. I'm telling you 2003 has been really rough and really crappy. The fires thankfully never got close enough to me to really claim anything of mine, but it did put a scare on a few of my friends and made breathing even harder than usual down here.

So some 15 year old has a GP just sitting in a corner? Time to put that baby back in circulation.

As far as Wayne's GP is concerned, I'd love to bring it into my house, but it seems like my house is cursed. Maybe I'd better let another board member take a crack at GP ownership. I still have a dream of looking a rack of 10+ GP's staring back at me. I guess just not anytime soon.

hi ickygoo,

I know that a collector is alsways a hunter but isn't it strange to have the wish of 10 guitars and having just 2 arms to play? it's just like saying I've got 10 ferrari's at my garage but I don't drive them. but that's not my prob.

I'm not sure if I should bid or wait for a black one.....

but something else. i know this is a ovation board but is somebody interested to buy a maton phil manning stereo custom semihollow guitar with dimarzio super2's? (serial#001)

I know it's a wierd desire - an obsession really. But then again my life's been filled with 'em. As far as the Phil Manning, that was you who picked up the Maton? That guitar looked very cool. The routing on the back seemed very interesting with the two big pannels. I like Matons. Hard to come by in the U.S. But don't get me wrong, I'm all about Ovations! I loves me some Ovation....

yeah, this maton is driving me crazy. lots of work and now phil manning and maton are calling me by my surname :-)
I thought about selling it cause I wanted to replace my fender box with a mesa boogie rectifier. but f*** it I love my old stuff.
so it's time to get a truck to drive all my stuff to the gigs.
huh, now I got my first gp, yes I like it.

Somebody explain to me.... Why would anyone in the USA be interested in an obscure Australian guitar like Maton? You win a prize if you manage to avoid the words "Josh" and "Homme"
If anybody wants a Maton I have a couple of F-hole Jazz guitars from the late '60's. They ain't like Josh's, but they are for sale and have the word "Maton" on the head.

hi paul,
as far as I know the man besides nick olivieri just uses ONE mastersound 520 to say it exactly.
are you from the fashion police? why shouldn't a u.s. citizen like an australian guitar?
the f-holes are machine made, the phil manning is pure craftsmen work ;-)

There is no reason why a US citizen shouldn't like an Aussie guitar. It's just that the majority of Maton's are OK guitars & there are so many US brands which are vastly superior

well paul,

what should I say now? I tested the maton mastersound 2000 and own the pm1. these are both good guitars. the pm1 is in my opinion really a guitar that deserves the word custom in its name. you would never buy a fender flame if you've played a pm1.

a comment to your vastly superior u.s. brands: you can say what you want but the art of manufacturing musical instruments is very young in the u.s. when you watch the knowledge of instrument makers in saxonia, bavaria and upper italy. and so it doesn't wonder that you'll never buy a GIBSON LesPaul if you just one time played the copy of HOFNER or HOPF.
During the time I tested all products of Gibson, Fender, Guild, Heritage, PRS and many others and in the end my result is that you can forget all if you want real high end guitars.
why should I pay so many money if I've got to change all the settings of a guitar.
the only exceptions in my opinion are the gibson marauder, gretsch 6128T, Ampeg Dan Armstrong and of course OVATION guitars.

ok the taste of everybody is different but I don't care here now. the first time I saw my 1291 uk2 I also thought that it's not the beauty I'd like to play but that changed within minutes. this is also one of the really few guitars where everything fits. the size of the frets, weight, balance, sustain and number of soundmodification without effects is making it to a superior guitar.
and don't forget the 1431e the best stud guitar I've ever tested although it was expensive in '84 and it's more expensive today.

I know about them and like them because a shop next to my house IN AMERICA carries them - both acoustic and the Mastersounds. Sorry to disappoint...well, not really.
