Location: Wooster, Ohio | I am used to a USA ovation which I know would have schims under the saddle for lowering the bridge. I am looking at a Celebrity that has the typical Ovation bridge block. Do they normally put schims in as well? If I don't have schims I assume I am out of luck lowering it since you can't file those kind of bridges? The one I am looking at the seller says the height from the twelth fret is 5mm. That seems really high to me?

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I'm not really sure, but I believe my New CC44 came with No shims.
So I imagine that when they set it up, if it needs shims you get them.
I haven't taken my 2058T apart to check, but I think that the Mother Ship plans on putting a few shims in there, just so you can lower it.
My 1778T had a flat brown shim and a white angled (ramped, whatever) shim in it.
But if you wanna lower the action, just look underneath, and hope some are there.
Oh! My old 4861 Korean Balladeer had shims... |

Doesn't that seem a bit non-PC? ;)
As far as I know, you should be able to lower it easy with a shim, unless the neck itself is tweaked, in which case you'll get a buzz instead of the high action. And yes, 5mm is on the high side. I usually set mine about 3mm or 3/32". |

Location: Central Massachusetts | But Andrew, to go from 5mm to 3mm at the 12th would require going down 4mm at the bridge, right? Seems unlikely you're going to make up that distance with just shims. |

Location: Chehalis, Washington | I'm not sure. Woody could probably answer better than I can, but it may need a neck reset if the action is really that high. I bought a guitar one time that had extremely high setup, and as much as I tweaked on it I couldn't get it to lower properly on my own. Luckily, it was CT-bound anyway, so I had service take care of that with its other issues, but depending on the model it may be easier to fix than that. If it's a bolt-on neck, which I think most Korean models are, then adjusting that would be a lot easier.
Or, you could just put .13's on it, tune it down to D, and just beat the snot out of it! :D |

Location: Sydney, Australia | My Celebrity 12 string had two shims underneath the bridge. I've taken both out and its still a tad high, but quite playable. Is it fair to compare it to my Adamas, which cost a little bit more? |

Location: Wooster, Ohio | The seller remeasured and now saws 3mm at he 12th and there are two schims left. That should be good enough to give me room to take it where I would like.
