Spider; if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the SlotHead?

Coincidentally, I JUST sold mine last night, and it'd be interesting to see if they were in similar "ballparks".

Clifford, the only way you would sell your slothead is if somebody named Guido were standing over you with a baseball bat and had just broken both your kneecaps and your left hand. You'd part with your entire flesh and blood family before you'd part with that guitar.

By the way, Wong had it out of your room twice and on his way to his room, when I caught him both times. You almost went home with a Legend LX.

I think Spider must have meant he paid under $15,000 not $1500..If he did mean to say $1500 then he is "full of shit" because i know how much it sold for but cannot say due to the seller may not want to disclose on the board how much it sold for..So, spider lets have some honesty or ad some more zero's to your paid price..

I actually contacted elias at eliasargyris@yahoo.com (is he an OFC member???) and asked him about the slothead.

His response was "the #31 was given as a gift to a good friend".

yeah.. right

:D

He did not specify whether his good friend was a japanese :D

Cliff ... my lucky day! There's ice all over the place here in hell! :)
I'm patiently waiting ... think it'll be a long wait?

Transcontinental flights is how I get my sleep, so the flight from CT to CA provided me 4 hours of uninterrupted dreamland where visions of Adamas, Legend LX, the history room, and flametop Elites filled my head. Al's frankenstein was the only scary part of the dream. ;)

I don't think it is anyone's beeswax what someone paid for, or sold a guitar for. I think asking is just rude, but that's me.

Nothing wrong with asking...worst that can happen is refusal.

Unfortunately, looking at current or past sales is often the only way we can determine "value." This is true even for insurance purposes. It is every seller and buyer's right not to disclose - fortunately, OFC'ers often share. Without disclosure, all we have is eBay and older "unique" guitars are rarely listed.

Miles, i completely agree!

I dont think its anyone's business to ask what someone paid for a guitar. If they want to disclose they can come on the site and tell.

Shar, i think Elia told you "he gave the guitar to a freind" not be rude to you.Emailing someone you dont know and asking him how much he sold a guitar for is very rude.If you indeed did this.

The reason i know the price of #31 is that i almost bought it back(i used to own it) recently but did not buy it for my own reasons. So, i was negotiating for it as well. This is why i know Spider is not telling the truth about the $1500 figure he threw out.Im guessing he meant under $15,000.Being the owner of two of these guitars currently (#33 and #57) i hope the price keeps going up higher and higher...

I was (lamely) joking about Al's guitar ... I spent some time checking it out at the OFC Jam and was admiring it ... it's the kind of guitar that could likely be found in my hands. It inspired me to think about what I could do with my Viper bass ... didn't mean to offend.

I was raised that asking how much something cost was the height of rudeness, in the same manner that telling someone how much something cost is also rude. I suspected that the $1500 was a typo since Elias is a knowlegable collector, hence my poke at Cliff. There are a number of knowledgable sources who can provide estimates of market value for any rare or vintage guitar.

I don't think amybody was offended, Bob.
I kinda like Al's axe myself. Has a lot of potential for a wide variety of sounds. A great gig guitar if you only have room for ONE.

For what it's worth I talked with Elias before I bought either of my Adamas Ovations in Feb.? That Slot head was the first thing I saw in a search of the web for a Blue reverse Ovation? He was asking $15,000 that much is certain Made my purchase of a 1688-7 for $1,800 on Ebay and my purchase for a little more from Al for the 1587-7 seem a little easier to swallow! I wanted to try and throw a set of Nylon strings on that one just to see what it soounded like? But for $15,000 I would not even be able to enjoy it or take it out and leave it on a stand on stage? I would play it but I would always feel nervous about who may be looking at it or something happeneing to it and that headstock snapping when it hit the floor! His price seemed (to even my limited Ovation knowledge) Fair! If it was $2000 or even $3000 I think I would have grabbed it for resale? If I could part with it! NOT!

Forgive me if this is slightly off subject. spider sent me an e mail asking a question about the Adamas baritone 12 and replies--regardless of how they are sent-- are all returned as undeliverable. I am at a loss as to how to communicate as a result. My answer is you are free to bid, only PayPal accepted is cash transfer, no credit card. Apologies to all if this is counter to the forum rules.

I would agree that it is a little rude to ask what someone paid but on the other hand as we follow the market of what these things are worth it is a very natural question to ask. Particularly when we looking at the one model that will set the high water mark. If it was me I would not be offended and would answer but that's just me.

I agree. I don't think it's rude to ask. But it is rude to automatically assume you are entitled to an answer. Look at it this way, you can walk up to a woman and ask her if she's a D-cup. You may get slapped and yelled at ... or she may just tell you go ahead and find out for yourself. Sometimes you gotta take a chance. Dave

If my Enflish is strange, forgive me. :p Anyway, the price was at the proper.
> I think Elias is very honest and he is a really gentleman. I was happy that
> I could do business with him. the good friend he told means "My friend". I bought it for him, but it was not "a gift". I bought it instead of him. Of course he finished the payment to me. He also own #7- He is A Japanese Big corrector. To own the slot head... It's my dream *like all of you?.
jmc, I can't understand you said "are all returned as undeliverable" You can send anythings over sea with EMS.

As I told it on this board, I can handle your early adamas. If you are willing to left them, let me know. ;) :)
