Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Don't know ... The seller will know. I just saw this, and the country artist is a sweet guitar, and wanted to share with the board. It seems in ridiculouslly good condition and the guy has a good return policy. If it's not "mint" back it goes! It's my understanding that all country artists --- are "artist bowls" You can check the serial number as to the date. |

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | According to the Ovation web site, this is a shallow bowl. I bought a shallow bowl Balladeer once but didn't like it at all. I love Ovations and own 4 of them but had a bad experience with the only shallow bowl I purchased. I would love a good nylon string Ovation but am concerned that it will have that same tinny sound my Balladeer had.

Location: SoCal | The Country Artist has a decent acoustic sound, not as good as a deep bowl classical, but the CA has 14 frets to the body and a slightly narrower neck. Plugged in, both are good.
I've had both a CA and a deep bowl Classical. I sold the classical and kept the CA.
This particular guitar looks great. At anything under $600, it's a good value. |

Location: the BIG Metropolis of TR | This '79 Country Artist has an "Artist" depth bowl (5 1/8) according to the model # the "2" in the model # code 1624 denotes "Artist" bowl(same depth as the Glen Campbell models)
I have a 1674 Country Artist(which they only made 2 yrs '83/'84)that is "suppose" to be a "Shallow" bowl w/cutaway.....I've been told that although it's listed as "Shallow" it is probably more like a "Mid-depth".
I have "Artist",Mid-depth",and "Shallow" bowl O's and I believe the 1674 to be more the "Artist" bowl (in size and "feel" 'cause it definitely ain't "Shallow")I think the only difference between the 1624 & 1674 is the cutaway!!!
Here are 2 side shots of a "Shallow" bowl 1674(this is the sunburst 1674 I sold Sergio)
side shot #1
side shot #2

I like it for that bouncy latin stuff like Girl from Impanema (sp), etc, good for country fingerpicking. This is definitely not a "classic" instrument though, too "bright", but the sound, at least to me is definitely not tinny. It's something other than a classical. |

Location: Nova Scotia, Canada | Stellarjim, this guitar does, indeed, have the shallow (Artist) bowl...not to be confused with the super-shallow bowl that your Balladeer probably had (I don't think there was ever an Artist bowled Balladeer). There is a big sound difference between the two.

Also, Mike, thanks for the great side shots of your guitar. That was extremely helpful. You'll have to let me know how you embed pictures in a reply.

5 guitars is just getting started, nevermind being too many. Go for the CA. They are wonderful guitars. |

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | I followed it to the end. Someone got a bargain @ roughly $400 but unfortunately it wasn't me. I wanted it in the worst way but it was more than I could explain at this time. I need to cool it until January and then I'll be able to snag another guitar...hopefully a Country Artist. |

Another one, I'm amazed at how the prices fluctuate. I've seen these with case going for as low as 385, and the above recent one at 405, and this one seems to be headed to over 500.
Return policy is not so generous as above. "as is" go figure. |

"new" country artist
Looks in pristine condition.
It's been so long since I played one of these with the cutaway. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I own this same guitar and it si VERY nice. Just got it back from the factory Monday after some modification work. I've also owned the 1624 and I like the sound of the newer one better. Plus the cutaway is nice and the newer electronics (OP-X) are quite an improvement over the originals. Cliff says the rosette looks like an Indian blanket being flushed down a toilet, but I rather like it. At $600. this guitar is a great bargin. |

I've finished fixing the cracks in the fretboard, and am almost done stabilizing the finish cracks. For you diy'ers I'll shortly post how to do this in the regular bulliten board. ciao |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Hey Moody - COMPRESS THIS! You're just jealous that mine looks like an "indian blanket being flushed down a toilet" (man, that's one of cliff's classics of all time). And you know that the only reason yours sounds better is because of the gold jack-washer. Those darn service guys are KILLING me here! |

Hey, I detuned it before I left, just twisted them down until they all sounded really low. Is this a GoodThing(tm)? |

Uh, wait... |

I've got Ovations on stands and hanging on the walls all over my house. All are tuned to concert pitch all the time (except the GC 12 which is tuned half a note down because it sounds better). I wouldn't even think about tuning a guitar down because it won't get played for a week. |

Hoped to see him on this board too. |

Anyway, I detune when shipping, but never while a guitar is just sitting in my house. I've had a '68 Balladeer hanging in my guitar closet (in tune) for over 9 months without ever being played. It won't hurt it a bit. The damn thing is MADE to be tuned to pitch. But then again, as long as you don't mind the hastle of re-tuning what's wrong with being cautious? To each his own. |

Besides, it'll put a smile on your face. |
