Location: SoCal | My daughter inherited a fat strat and is taking lessons. I'm thinking that a good Xmas gift would be a headphone setup whereby she can practice quietly but hear a cool sound.
Anybody have any suggestions? |

I just picked up a Pocket Rock-it on Ebay. It plugs into the ¼” jack, has gain and volume (distortion capable) and attaches to headphones. New they run under $100.
The Line 6 Pod ($300) has an headphone option as well.

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | You know those Tascam guitar trainers are really cool. I owned one for about 6 months before I got tire of my buddy bugging me to borrow it so I sold it to him (poor dude...had to accept $25 a week for 6 weeks to get my money).
They allow you to plug straight into the cd player and play along with effects. You can slow the songs down without changing keys to help learn a song easier.
and you can plug in headphones to hear yourself and the cd playing together without bothering anyone else.
It would also double as a regular cd player.
I think they cost about $150. |

Location: Midland, MI | Line6 Guitar port is about $99 *but* requires a PeeCee to work (USB connection). They also would like you to sign up for the $7/month GuitarPortOnline service. I had it, then cancelled it. The guitarport works without it.
Tascam PocketStudio 5 would allow her to play quietly as well as record...with or without backing tracks. Runs about $299 (new).
That is the extent of my experience with this stuff. :) |

Location: Tennessee | I have a Pandora PX4 (?) that has a bunch of cool amps and sounds, plus a rhythym track complete with bass. Battery powered, and clips to the guitar strap. It's a great one for jamming along to just about any kind of music she could be into. They also have a version that includes a 4 track recorder. |

These are cheaper. One of my friends has one for the office. I call it a bug. It's not the same as amp, but in terms of size can't be beat.
Or get a little pignose with a headphone outlet. |

Location: Toronto | Hey Paul - I'm a huge fan of the PODxt, and think it adds level of excitment to guitar playing. Unlike Cruster - I also have a Guitarport subscription because I like the guitar lessons...
