Location: San Leandro, CA | Hello all,
I am new to this board and found an Ovation electric guitar at a yard sale a number of years ago in LA. It says Ovation on the head however were do you find the serial number? I found what looks like engraved type numbers. Can't seem to see the first of 3 digits. Anyone know of a website to do research on the early ones?
I just got new strings on the guitar and I'm loving it. Just want to know more about it!
Thanks,
Krissy |

There should be some links to the left side of the screen such as reference. In there you will find some data on the solidbodies.
Do you know if you have a Deacon, Breadwinner, Viper or which? Type these words in as a search under Member Area, Gallery.
Serial numbers on the solids are a little lacking.
Take a look around! |

Location: San Leandro, CA | When I went down to have new strings put on the person at the music store said it was a jazz guitar.
I was just curious like the acoustics if there was some markings other than the head. When I take off the black piece on the back of the guitar it had some very light serial numbers which I could read two of them but not the third.
But no mention of the type. I'm taking a pic of it now. I will try and post the pic.
Thanks for the help!

Location: 6 String Ranch | It's a Tornado, of very early production, no name on the pickguard and no 15th fret inlay. 68 maybe. Looks to be in pretty good shape, just missing a volume knob. Did it have a case? It would have been a Geib hardshell with maybe yellow lining or a red lined archcraft(cardboard) case. |

Location: San Leandro, CA | This is awesome information on it. It didn't come with the case. It came with a gig bag for $100 at a yard sale. When I had the strings changed he mentioned that the spring was missing for the vibrato bar. So that is not working right now. So was hoping to get that spring just had no idea of what type of Ovation this was. Thanks for all of the great history on it! Feel like I'm at antiques Roadshow :) |

Very nice guitar, Krissy and welcome to the Club. Has anyone warned you that you can't just stop at one? ;) |

Location: San Leandro, CA | hehe...yes it is my first Ovation. I learned on a cheapy Yamaha. But much more fun to learn on this and much easier to play!
I knew I really had something nice when the guy in this huge music store said, "Swwweeeeetttt".
I'm working on my chords right now...so will be a while before I play much but looking forward to the learning.
Thanks for all the info. Do you think I can find a spring for the bar and a replacement volume knob to match? |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Try the factory for both the spring and knob. I think the knobs were made by Rogan. Stew Mac would be a good source for either I'd guess. |
