I tried to find info on it, but couldn't. Is the top solid or plies? Any opinions?

I would guess that it's something that was built for the overseas market. Contact Ovation customer service and ask.

A limited number of Engelmann Spruce tops (signified by ES as part of the complete model number) were used on Elites and Legends in the early 90's. They are nice, but not necessarily special unless you really like that particular wood look. Kim told me several years ago that the really rare ones are the ones with solid tops. Most I have seen are matched.

FYI, Instrument Exchange prices are usually very non-reflective of the market and the stores usually don't know much about Ovations.

I sent the owner an email about what model it actually is, but it might be hard to determine if it has a solid top...(unless Ovation kept a list of those model's serial numbers)...the ad said it was 515443, which puts it in 1996..

The fret markers are more like the Longneck but It isn't a Baritone. Foriegn market issue seems to be the right answer.

Personally, I am blocking out the 90's so anything could have happened!

Attention CMS MAN, et al, The fret markers in the full up position are the preferred way to go in my not-so-humble opinion.

For what it's worth, I went back and counted the frets, there are 22, and the neck joins at the 14th fret, if that helps to identify it..

...perhaps it is a Longneck, the O' website shows the DS778 neck also joins at the 14th fret, with 22 frets in all...

It's not a long neck. The bridge would be further back in the body if it was. The Engleman spruce top and fret markers both scream "Overseas market".

I think I've seen CWK1.5 make a reference to "Shark Tooth" for the fret markers.

Nice looking guitar. You should buy it and then tell us all about it!

That's OK steve, I play standing as well.

If this is an "Overseas Market" Unit, they really can throw you for spotting models. Messes up the whole game!

Interesting auctions. They have a deadline, but also a 48 hour cut off if no one else bids. I like that, it probably moves the product faster and it looks like the prices are more realistic (buyer friendly)

I can't recommend IE - their customer service takes forever to respond. I had won the bid on an 1866 and the seller never responded, never shipped, finally they credited me.
When I emailed them telling them their registration page was crashing, 3 days later they replied:
"John, We are sorry with any difficulties that you have experienced with this order. The shipping instructions have been sent onto the seller with your correct address. We show that your order was submitted over the weekend and was processed yesterday. Our system will send you an automated email once it has shipped. Please let us know if you need anything else. Thanks, Julie IE Customer Service Rep".
When I sent them another quoting their customer service response time policy (6-48 hours), 5 days later I got this gem:
"John, We are sorry with any difficulties that you have experienced with this order. The shipping instructions have been sent onto the seller with your correct address. We show that your order was submitted over the weekend and was processed yesterday. Our system will send you an automated email once it has shipped. Please let us know if you need anything else. Thanks, Julie IE Customer Service Rep"

So Lets get this straight!
1) Response to buyers emails-SLOW!

2) Time it takes to ship item to the
Auction Winning bidder-SLOW

3)The time it should take any potential buyer to pull the ebay trigger with these clowns?
I'm at a loss for words.
Does When Hell Freezes Over win any awards?!

The listing is still showing me as the winning bidder - The Winner?
GC uses this a lot, I believe they are behind the hosting service, ExchangeBoulevard.com - they have a link to it from their site. In fact the guitar I was waiting for turned out to be from a GC.

I'm sure there are some legitimate sellers using IE who may provide great service, but the site itself has a terrible reputation and from my experience, deserves it. It was a great idea, but imho whoever is behind it has dropped the ball.

btw, Steve, the slow response was from IE customer service. The response from the seller was, and as of this date still is, nonexistent...

ps: beware - there have been a lot of auctions cross-linked to ebay - you have to use IE's payment system if you win the bid.

The seller finally responded, said it was a 1768 made for the german market, also updated the photos, there's a crack in finish, the headstock is chipped, and he wants way too much money(imho)...

Instrument Exchange was selling a Ovation 12 String Pinacle on EBAY .Description said 6 string and that it was made in USA , when I questioned them about it ,they said it was a 12 string guitar but it was made in JAPAN there was an error made in the listing ,so they withdrew the auction . There was a round hole and elite style model made for Germany. Nice guitars. All had solid book matched tops and a matching spruce peghead.
