I have acquired a 1612 Balladeer. It is in rough shape with 2 big cracks on top and battery holder has been moved and needs to be rewired, as well as the wiring to pickup. Seems one wire is not soldered. I am trying to date this. I can't find the serial number, may have been removed. The neck is not the 5 piece version, it is just solid mahogany, and the neck adjustment is from inside the soundhole. OHSC. Can I get an approximate year from these features? Any info will help.
Thank you,
John

They were made 1975-1984.

By the neck & lack of TR, I'd venture Early80's . .

Thank you for your input. So in the early 80's they made cost effective moves on the neck, making it 1 piece and no headstock neck adjustment? Or was this better design?

It was the advent of the KamanBar (hence, the neck adjustment inside the bowl) instead of the traditional truss-rod.
I may be wrong, but I believe the necks are two pieces of the same wood that give the appearance of one-piece (again,I"think") . . .

Probably the best person to "date" this would be Moody, but he's busy replacing his Glenn Campbell poster with Bob Taylor photos & filling out the entry forms for Scientology . . .

Great info. Does any one know where I can find a diagram for the pickup. Seems like there is a lead not soldered. The main white wire coming out of the bottom of the pickup is good, but then there is a post with some solder on bottm of pick up, but no wire. Would this be just a ground wire?

Not sure if this will help, it's from my owners manual for my '79 1612, hopefully you can magnify the print and find what you're looking for.
