Location: SoCal | I've been absent from the board while I've been trying to figure out how to post this. Might as well come straight out with it.
If you remember, we had a guy at church join the band. He played a Taylor 314ce, with the Expression system preamp. The more I listened to it, the more I liked it and realized that acoustically and plugged in, it was very superior to my guitars. To make a long story short, I traded him my 1537 and my 1773LX for his guitar. Here's a pic of me from last Sunday
I've since decided that I'd get all Taylors, and earlier this week, I traded my OFC slothead for a much nicer Taylor, the koa body, spurce top K14
Next week, I'll post what Ovations I still have up for sale.
I guess that it wouldn't be appropriate for me to keep posting here. Maybe I'll mosey over to the AGF and start posting there. Anyway, I'm surprised that more of you guys can't see the superiority of Taylors over Ovations......... |

My exposure to Moody(PI) has not been wasted.
If you notice, he is not actually 'playing' a Taylor in either picture, merely holding it.
Add to that the fact that there was no audible 'ding' during his post, and the only conclusion I can come to is that Paul Moody is still, after 10000 posts, trying to attract attention to himself.
ps - excellent last post, Mr. Moody! Make sure your friend (the new owner of the inferior O's) joins the OFC. We'll be looking forward to pics of him playing your 1773lx. |

Location: Jet City | I like wood and bowls both. Don't know why it has to be extreme.
Taylors are nice, I just can't afford a good one. Same with Adamas really. The 2 Taks I just picked up are almost in a class by themselves, and any others that are in that class cost 3x as much. Ovation guitars are ONE HELLUVA value. I just picked up a Custom Legend 1619 for my son at a RIDICULOUS price. That sort of workmanship and quality would have cost 10x on a Taylor.
Nuthin wrong with good wood. Nuthin wrong with good wood and plastic either. If I had all the $ in the world I'd buy Somogyi guitars and blow all those silly Collings and Taylors and McPhersons away.
But I don't, so I'll stick with my best bang for the buck guitars.
I have a bunch of electrics too, they all sound different, and they all have their place. And they're all affordable for my budget. I'd love a Custom LP, or an Alex Lifeson Signature ES-335, but just can't swing those at the present time.
Paul, your unique perspectives and comments will be missed by me at least. I would hope that your new found love of expensive wood wouldn't keep you away from the relationships that have been built here for the past 10000 posts though.

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I have no idea what you're talking about here. I just came back from a visit to the Grand Rapids Guitar Center yesterday, where I played EVERY guitar in their "high end" acoustic section.(even the ones in their glass case) I couldn't find one Taylor, Martin, or Gibson that even remotely came close to the sound quality and playability of my Adamas and Ovation guitars! The taylors ALL sounded "tinny" to me, including the 314ce. You MAY want to try a good audiologist.
But Hey! ... I think everyone should be able to have as many GOOD guitars as he/she/(or confused) can afford. The only thing is, I think I've played everything I could possibly get my hands on (haven't tried a McPherson yet), and in MY opinion, there isn't anything that comes close in value and quality as a USA Made Ovation or Adamas. PERIOD.
Good luck in the world of trend. |

They are different, as our ears are, get over it!
Sometimes my Taylor sounds 'better', sometimes my Ovations do. It depends on many factors including mood I'm in, piece I'm playing, way I'm playing the piece, room temperature, whether I'm wearing green socks, the time of year, hair length, to name a few. |

Note his rave about the ES in his post...I don't even know many Taylor fans who actually like the expression system electronics. Personally, I think they suck big time. I had a 414 limited with a Fishman Prefix that was awesome, and way better than the ES. For Paul to espouse the glory of it...good joke, and nothing more.
I will say, that of some of the finest sounding acoustic guitars I've either owned or played (1680 Adamas, CA Legacy Performer, Larrivee LV-09, Martin 000-28) that by far the Larrivee was the bomb in terms of sound, playability, and looks. Fantastic instrument, and definitely a cut above most Taylors, and most of anything period.
I'm sure all will be revealed in due time... |

Location: SoCal | Well, I just got out of the hospital and it's been one helluva last few months. It's cost me a lot of money to get my guitars back, but things are finally back to normal.
Most of you probably read about it in the papers, but being a world class private investigator, a couple of months ago I was helping the cops break up a major drug ring. After infilltrating their organization, as I was locked in hand to hand combat with the head of the drug cartel, we both went out a window and fell 3 stories. He landed on the concrete and died, but I landed on a llama which broke my fall. The llama died, and I hit my head.
You probably all read about it in the newspapers or saw it in the evening news.
Little did I know that I had a concussion which went undetected but affected my thinking in very radical and odd ways. Hence, my thought that Taylors were good guitars.
Suffice to say, my wife finally realized that I was acting even stranger than normal and got me to the hospital. There, they cracked open my skull, drained excess fluid, and now I'm fine.
Which goes to show that a hole in the head is not a deterent to being a private investigator (or a member of this board).
The downside is that to get my guitars back, I had to pay major money along with the Taylors. In fact, the people who bought my guitars didn't want the Taylors, just the money. So the Taylors went to the Good Will store where they have been offerecd for $3 apiece with nobody buying them. I'm out thousands of dollars, but I've got my 1537, 1773LX, and OFC slothead (ding!) back.
All is well and I'm back to normal. Sorry. I know that noraml's not all that good....... |

Location: Tennessee | Are you SURE Moody is back? He popped in with one lame story that is not altogether realistic. Since then, no more posts, which doesn't jive with his modus operandi. I believe he may still be suffering from his delusions ... and just trying to appear normal. It's a common trait exhibited by those with closed head injuries, especially those who have walked away from his minders in "the facility". If anyone sees him, do not approach and call the psych ward at Hoag Hospital ... they are trying to locate him and re-sedate. |

And his IS an occasionally dangerous occupation.
(definition of police work: Months of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror.) RCMP member once told me, "Yknow, until you're walking up to a trailer answering a 'domestic disturbance' and hear gunshot, you never realize how thick the buttons are on your uniform as you duck and hide between blades of cut grass. |

He'll probably come back saying that he is selling all of his wood boxes and he now embraces Ovations!
