The 1537 coming from Canada was found this morning in UPS's Salt Lake City Lost and Found Whse. It seems that the box was damaged (the part with the shipping label?). They say the case and guitar sustained no damage? They are repacking it and it will be here on Friday. |

It's tough having to work occasionally and then our cableone line at home went down, so I couldn't respond to the seller. He didn't say what he sold it for on the second chance offer, but I presume it was around $1000. I guess I'm not destined for a 1537, even when I was this close. My daughter got to play one before I did. I'm sure I'll hear about it this weekend, when we go up to visit her in Moscow.

I (sniff sniff) sadly admit to cheating you on the 1537 guitar I sold you last year. It really wasn't a 1537, heck it really wasn't even an Ovation. I bought one of those cheap knock-offs and fixed it up to LOOK like a 1537. It is amazing what I can do with cardboard and a little super glue
I haven't slept a wink since! I am so overcome with guilt that I've decided to give you all your money back! I'll even pay the shipping to send that monstrousity back.
Why do I want it back if it isn't a 1537??? Ah....ah...ah.. oh yeah! I want to hang it up as a constant reminder to keep on the straight and narrow from now on!
So please, send it back to me ASAP.
Your crooked fellow Ovationeer, |

Everytime I get a bit depressed, I just pop on over here and am reminded that: 1) I only paid $400 for my 1537 in 1994 or so, and 2) I almost sold it for $450 to buy one of the poorly rated Adamas' just 3 months ago.
Man can things turn around in a hurry.... now ...where did that Lotto ticket go, Oh yeah, I didn't buy one (guess I should do that).

Since I spent the weekend in Moscow bummed over how I missed out on the 1537, I'll have to contact you next time I am driving to Portland, so I can stop by Hermiston and see what I missed. I tried to tell my daughter how lucky she was to have played such a special guitar, but she still likes her Ibanez better because it doesn't have a "plastic" back. I guess she won't inherit my collection, but I'm having trouble building much of a collection anyway.

I thank you so much for your admission ... I know how difficult it must be for a scoundrel like you, but I'm glad I could be a part of helping you to see the light.
Alas, I must admit that I've fallen in love with the ugly wench you foisted off on me. I should have known it was too good to be true ... her perfect tight grain, the lovely honey color, none of the dents, dings, fret wear or fretboard wear that all of the others seem to have, the perfectly floating fretboard with plenty of space between it and the top, the incredible action and perfect intonation. You, sir, are a master of deception. And yet, I'm honored to have played your fool.
Since you've publicly performed your act of contrition, I feel it unwise to return the guitar to you. I would just feel terrible if I contributed to you falling off the wagon again. Just as I wouldn't buy an ex-drunk a drink, I just can't bring myself to send the monstrosity back to you. A sacrifice I know, but I'm willing to forego the few measely dollars you took from me in order to protect my fellow members of the OFC. And most importantly, I feel the obligation to help you stay on the straight and narrow now.
But thank you for your kind offer ... I cogitated long and hard on it. But in the end, I decided it was best to hang the guitar on the wall as a reminder of the kinds of small acts that can help a man off the road to perdition and forward towards salvation.
Now, let's talk about that slothead you offered for $600 ...

Brad, why can't you take a guitar with you? I'm already taking too much stuff. Each person is allowed 2 70lb boxes, so I'm taking a total of 6 boxes + luggage.
I've mentioned here before how often I see people playing Ovations on the Filipino TV channel. I would say that 75% of all the guitars I've seen are Ovations, 10% Taylor, 15% other brands. Who knows, maybe I can pick one up when I'm there. |

I tried every Adamas, Elite and higher end Ovation I could get my hands on (only about 8, limited choice in orlando). I had settled on a W597 that I loved the feel and sound of. Everyone here sold me on the 1537, which I got from fellow OFCer Jeff W. It blows away the W597! Definitely keep it! The 1537 has quite a following here. |

I bought it about 6 years ago for $300 and left it in the case for 3 years because I didn't know how to play. I've started learning a little and am now teaching kids at Church basic guitar. I'm amazed that this thing never ever goes out of tune compared to the other guitars in the class.
Thanks for the info. I think you are right about keeping it. |

As it is now, I am sure a couple of these guys would trade an Adamas for a nice 1537.
P.S. Use mine for worship at my church too...

I've ever played and didn't realize the value both in quality and monetary. I only play in church too. Probably because parishiners are more forgiving than most of the public. But that may change as I continue to play. I've been enjoying reading a lot of the banter in this site. I haven't done anything like this in a few years since I stopped going to the Miatanet site.

At the risk of starting a riot, don't sell your purpose short!
I had an Austin-Healey where the choice was whether to take a date or my guitar. The guitar never said no! |

I even married a music minister, who's mother is our church organist, and have played handbells and trumpet in church for 28 years. I've just thought of the guitar as more of a universal instument wheras the handbells and organ are firmly planted in santuararies.
are there riots often.
My daughter has to ride with her mother when the guitar travels. |

The FD14 is a better sounding and playing guitar and the 1719-CM is right up there also. The new U681t might also find it's place in the clouds.
However, you will not find a better playing or sounding guitar than your 1537 for under $2000 and even that might be up for debate.
At the price you paid, it should never leave your family....pass it on to the kids...but never sell it! |
