Hi folks,
I'm about to attempt to sell my 1758 12 String (possibly eBay, not sure yet), but I can't for the life of me find a guitar box big enough for the case! Ack!

As I'm sure many of you know, those deep-bowl twelve strings have a really big case that will not fit in a standard guitar box. I've tried trolling my local guitar shops, as well as several shipping suppliers. No dice.

Of course UPS will box it for me, but that ends up being very expensive for the buyer. Any ideas?

Thanks everyone!

BTW - Very useful site

Hit up a furniture store. They often have large flat boxes.

Go begging at the back door of a guitar Center. r just ask - it is a good source since they get rid of lots anyway!

All good ideas - Thanks! Uline is a good website - I've used them for moving supplies but I suspect they only sell in bulk. I think I'll have to give Guitar Center another try.

Hmmm...

For the last year or so I have always had at least one empty guitar box in my garage. Four have shipped out and four have shipped in.

Maybe I need to ship more in...

Oh yeah!

Pictures and price on your guitar may save some Ebay fees!

A Taylor carton should be perfect for your guitar, and a Martin case is next best. Both are deeper than the standard Kaman/Ovation carton.

Maybe so.... But the cartons used by Taylor and Martin are superior to those used by Ovation. I very rarely read ads for Taylor or Martin, but have NEVER seen one that included the line, ".... has typical cracks in the finish..." Ovations are especially vulnerable to cracking due to impact and particularly so in shipping.

Don't get me wrong; I like Ovation cartons for shipping Ovations but I pack better than the factory. UPS and FedEx are not as likely to honor my claims as they are for a high volume shipper.

Carton? Is that different from a standard guitar box?

I'm also considering putting it craigslist for local pickup to avoid more running around trying to find a usable box / carton.

Of course I badly sprained my ankle today while hiking, which isn't helping the running around part...

This is too complicated. It's real simple. Sell me a great guitar for a good price and I'll make a custom box and ship it to you flat. Of course I need to see pics and price. I just lost a 1758 12 string on Ebay today. It was a beautiful white one. You'll then be able to ship the guitar to me and everyone's a winner.

RE: Carton?

When I switched Coasts in 8th Grade I had to lose words like tonic, rubbish, Jimmies and Pickelilly.

I think "carton" might have been in the mix as well.

Now I say "Howdy" and "Soda Pop".

I'm not sure you've upgraded. Do you say things like gum band and wush your clothes?
