Al and Stephen....you guys are making me crazy. My trembling finger is sitting over the keyboard prepared to do a BIN on Al's 1597 in Red (my wife said last night..."honey, it's Christmas, get the one you want"), but now I see Stephen's Adamas.
HELP!!!!! I have never bought an Adamas and let's admit it...I stumbled into my 1537 without a clue. I want to do the best I can. Which would you guys do. I am so CONFUSED!!!!
Here is my mission. The guitar will be used in two church services a week where I lead worship. Additionally, I just took delivery of a Tascam 2488 last month, so am starting to play with recording.
I love my 1537, the neck, the fretwork...everything, except when I put on a few pounds the round body vs round body doesn't always work, but my doc says I have to keep it off, so I am happy with the deep bowl (that is a 1537 right).
I need some advice now so I don't think twice later. This will likely be my LAST guitar acquisition for another 5 years. |

Location: Upper Left USA | Not knowing Al's price and working from the standpoint of wanting an all purpose worship Workhorse I would:
1) Stephen's 1681 at $1500
2) Al's 1597 (Al has excellent prices)
3) Stephen's 1881 at $1200
just my opinion, clock is ticking on the SWMBO permissions! |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | Thanks.....I did look hard at that too, but really, the round back hasn't been a problem. My biggest problem has been keeping it budget (which I have already blown) and it must be the "elite" style as my Wife who used to hate it, now hates it when I consider a conventional single hole guitar. It is a beauty though. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | When your wife tells you to buy what you want, that is probably the single most important command that must be obeyed. My wife finished her Christmas shopping a long time ago and I'm sure it didn't include a guitar. So Stephen, you're too late. She's much more concerned about my increasingly deep bowl, so I'm betting it's some sort of exercise equipment for me.
She did command that I buy all 3 of my Porsches. |

Location: Parrish, FL | I love the 1681 I picked up recently. Didn't know how much at the time, but it has become my favorite in all respects, especially the action. The Adamas has the deep V satin finish neck that I find unbeatable. The tone is very close to the 1537, just a TOUCH less mellow, but very, very close. The Adamas that I have is a sister to the one Stephen is selling. You won't regret it. (AT ALL!) |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I am afraid that is getting too rich for my taste. At this point it is either the 1578 or the 1881. I am also looking at a 1778LX and it is probably more in my range....but I can stretch a bit. |

The 1881 sounds fantastic plugged in and the bowl is extremely comfortable when standing up.
If you plan to record with it and use it plugged in at church and worship services, it would be very difficult to beat.
The 1681 is a great guitar but much closer to your 1537. I say diversify and grab an Adamas. You can't go wrong. |

I've been giving this more than my usual thought and the only advice I can come up with is to have your wife talk to mine. I should have arranged this when we drove by Hermiston last week, but I was worried that my wife would decide that you were just too reasonable, getting by with only one Ovation and using it all those years in church. I think your wife might be a good influence on mine. Maybe my wife could sell yours on the theory that if you really spend a lot of money on something, you'll use it a lot more. So far, she hasn't applied that theory to guitars, however. She has applied it to exercise equipment/laundry hangers, however. 6 foot weight bars do hold a lot of laundry, especially if you take the weights off. I have a brand new Nordic Track that I spent $7 on that she won't use. Maybe I should have told her it was $700.
Sorry, Jeff, I just can't relate to your predicament because I can't get past the line where your wife says to get what you want. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | GO ADAMAS!!! You really won't be totally happy until you own one. I am also leading worship and am playing 3 days out of the week. I now have every model I have wanted (with the exception of a nice Adamas I). I have a guitar for every type situation, i.e., 12-string for those times you are the only instrument in a congregation setting, the O-Classical for doing accompaniment with a single special-music vocalist, and a few 6-strings 1581,1537,1869, for all-around leading. When I have to choose one guitar for everything, it is always the ADAMAS, nothing does it all so well as this guitar. |
