Location: So. Cal. | U681 (prototype, a little different from final production model, see other threads) vs 2008C --
simple observation:
U681 - awesome bass, ringing trebles
2008C - typical Adamas, consistent throughout the range, but very raw still (I could still smell the wood through the holes on top).. probably needs some more time to warm up
some more:
U681 - butter smooth, heavenly sound
2008C - nice potential, we shall see
Don't get me wrong the 2008C is still a top-notch guitar, it's just the U681 is out of this world! |

There's Moody's playing.
Then, there's Everyone ELSE.
Everyone Else is "better". |

| Hi OFCers,
I was baffled by some of the comments of some people here when one kind OFCer showed me how to look thru my past posts... There seems to be some misunderstanding as I thought I would get responses straight thru my email when someone posted a message like when you PM someone...or I would usually just wait for my topic to "pop" up in the general posts section or PM people directly. I guess this wasnt the best way as I realize that my posts were still being replied to by people and hence i wasnt able to respond properly to them...I apologize for that as it was not my intention to slight anyone. I usually respond to people as soon as I can when they PM me but sometimes this can take a while as the office I work in frowns upon employees using the internet for personal use. I just read thru mosts posts and I just wanted to express my thanks to all who responded to my general posts and PMs. This really is a great site!
To introduce myself properly, my name is Jose and I'm still trying to find my first Adamas. im trying to find the best suited for me as it is going to be quite sometime before I buy another one. I had my sights set for a 47 RI which was in my budget (WarEagle's) but he changed his mind at the last minute. (Hey Kieth, Im still hoping you'd sell me your 47 RI! :) Help me out OFCers! :) Other people were kind enough to offer their 47 RI but those were just out of my budget at this time. It seems that I might have to go with either a UTE or a 2008c hence this post. Hopefully I'd be able to close a deal within the week... one way or the other, I'm going to get my first Adamas and I hope its worth it! Thanks to everyone again for all the input. Really appreciate it! |

Everything an Adamas should be and while you see the UTE pop up with regulatory in the "FOR SALE" Section (everybody loves them but seem to sell them anyway), I have yet to see anyone put up an '08 Collectors for sale.
Call Al and just do it. |

with me being this rude accuser - I want to say sorry and welcome you to this board. I just wondered, why you'd never answer and open one thread after the other- but I have said this before.
One little tip: Under the "Quick reply" field there is a button "Full Reply Form", click it and enable the Option "Email Notification". Then you won't miss an answer to your threads.
According the guitars: Nearly everything is said, here and in the other posts.
Be aware that the U681 and the 08C are different "concepts": One for example is a 12fret, non cutaway, while the other one is 14 fret clear to the body with a cutaway.
Soundwise you can't go wrong with any of the textured tops.
Best regards,
Kurt |

If you can have only ONE Adamas, go with the 2008C. Since the UTE prototype is almost impossible to get (only 2 or 3 around), and the production model is not exactly the same thing. Furthermore, the 2008C is more versatile and well suited for different styles of playing. Be it rhythm, solo work or finger style.
TO expand further, any texture top Adamas would generally be above average. |

The U681T sold new for about $1,700, a surprisingly LOW cost for the tremendous value. The CVT 1680 came out about $1,000 more and without the textured top.
Takes a lot of "other" to make up for the fact that you can buy the U681T at a used price and
a LOT less than the 47RI, OFC, and the 2008C.
My vote for the greatest value to cost of any guitar that Adamas has sold (or will sell). |

| Arghhh... so many choices.... I just wish I lived closer to you guys so I can compare these great guitars side by side. I guess all things taken into consideration, it really boils down to what pleases you.... Just wish I didnt have to choose and I could just buy all of them. I think I have GAS and I have'nt even bought one guitar yet.... |

My advice would be to get whichever one is the easiest to get and then while you are enjoying that one, start working on acquiring the next one.
It might take you a couple years but eventually you could get the '08, the UTE and a #47RI and be the envy of the neighborhood! |

However, people on this list (me included) would be seriously jealous of anyone who scored the hat trick of fabric tops. Although I think a four-peat would include an Adamas 1 with the broccoli headstock. |

| Thanks for all the input everyone. I guess all things taken into consideration..I just need to bite the bullet and buy an Adamas...though I'm still hoping that there will be a 47 RI that I would someday be able to afford. Thanks Again :) |

Call Al and just do it. I've noticed that with the utes as well - people claim to love them then sell them. I've given up buying guitars since I got my ute - the only one I've bought since was the ute 12.
Never played an 08 collectors so I can't answer the question, but I'd like to know why people sell their utes. |

For me, the UTE was a fab playing and sounding guitar but it just never felt right.
Same thing with my Martin 000-28NB Norman Blake. Incredible sounding and playing guitar and everyone who plays it loves it. Just hasn't bonded well with me which is why it is in the "gotta go" pile. |

Reason 1) Their home was experiencing unexplained foundation cracks.
2) It frightened the dog.
3) Neighbors complained even when playing unplugged.
4) Some local authorities wanted it deemed a dangerous weapon.
5) It frightened the children.
6) Didn't want to embarass his guitar friends when playing together.
And 7).... It frightened them! |

Location: SoCal | When we got the U681T, we were amazed. It is everything we expected after the wonderful reviews of the acoustic prototypes. Amazing guitar and (again) amazing price.
Then the 47RI, then the OFC. Some of us bought all three. (also have three 1687's)
I know that I will probably release the U681T at some point, not the 47RI or the OFC.
This does not take anything away from the U681T...had to pay a lot more for the 47RI and OFC.
In the meantime, I enjoy all three.
As to the 2008C, also a superior guitar but four textured top slotheads? If I hadn't gotten the 47RI or the OFC, then the 2008C.
Get one (two, three, or all) of the four, fight for it...I don't believe they will be available in the future.
Want to buy today? Call Al for a 2008C, nice price, great guitar. |

Good advice.
I had previously posted that I should have just bought Colin's about two years ago (or the one from San Diego that Fugot picked up). |

| I played the OFC at the last Tour and it's a wonderful guitar, but it certainly wouldn't replace the ute in my affections. Very different sound and I would love to own both. I guess you could love one much more than the other but to say that one blows the other one away has to be personal taste rather than an objective opinion. Or the view of a truly fantastic guitarist. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The Ute and OFC are very different guitars. Tim's OFC is a wideneck. Mine isn't, so the OFC and Ute are considerably different at that end of the fretboard. Ute is a 12 fret neck, with more stringlength over the body. The OFC has a deeper bowl. Like comparing a Folklore to a Legend. Different guitars for different styles. |

Well, I'm not a fantastic player! In fact, less than mediocre at best. But when I sat in front of Temp playing my OFC in Amelia.."it blew me away". He played the crap out of and it just kept on giving.
I also agree with Mark, the Ute is a different animal entirely. In fact, much closer to the FD-14 in play and feel. The Fudd is more "wood tone" & mellow, whereas the Ute just shakes the room and your fillings. |
