| You remember this guitar. I offered it here a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, since then I've run into health problems and need surgery, so I'm going to need to really sell it this time.
$700 Pics are in the gallery. Or I'll send pics. :(
Thanks |

| This is unsettling. An awkward moment. If in fact those of you who own 1537's expouse their virtues at every chance, and yet nobody is willing to snatch this guitar up at this incredible price....
Is this another bubble? Just like tech stocks a while back, or possibly housing prices right now?
Are all of you folks keeping these prices inflated for your own interests?
This guitar is one exceptional piece of work, and yet every time I've offered it here, at lower and lower prices, it's gone unsold. I'm now down to half of what some of you say is fair value and nobody's hitting.
I'm not sure exactly what's going on here. I'm confused. Input welcomed. |

I sent him an priv msg tonight as I don't have his email. You know...typical concerning condition.
Curious - the bridge has three wood pegs, not sure if this is normal or reflects a replacement bridge. My pre-production doesn't.
It may require an adoption as it would be good to keep it in the family and, from what I have seen in the gallery, it is a "purdy thing". |

If you can wait long enough for our tax return to come in around Feb. 15th, we have a sale :D
The Mrs. is giving her blessing and wishes you a speedy recovery as well.

Location: SoCal | ok, now search feature worked...from an earlier post:
1. From being cased and tensioned for decades the bridge started to pull away. I had a luthier repair it. He matched the wooden screw plugs.
2. Because of same, there are several (5, about 1 inch long)small finish cracks from the bridge south.
3. One thin finish crack from end of fretboard to bridge.
4. Missing one of the small triangular veneer pieces that points to zero on the volume knob.
Besides that, it looks close to being new. As I said, I'm the only owner, and though I played it nightly thru the 80's, I went into midi studio work after that and cased it for the last 15 or more years.
It has great action and the frets and fretboard are perfect. Of course it's stereo. Serial # 302670. |

Although it probably plays fine and sounds terrific, your guitar, with the repairs that have been made and the existing issues with the finish isn't going to bring as high of a price as a 'cleaner' example. I'd think that the $700 asking price is probably at the high end of what the market will bear, considering the condition. The black finish is a plus and will garner more interest.
I've been active on this forum for over a year now. I've seen nice 1537's bring $850 to $1000. Reecntly, most have gone on eBay for well under $700 though. Heck, an FD-14, perhaps the most sought after guitar on this forum, only brought $750 this week because of some issues with the bridge and finish.
Your market for this guitar at a 'premium' price exists in this forum. Many of us consider the 1537 a 'must have' guitar and will eventually pick one up. We are a patient lot however and are willing to wait for a guitar without issues for our GAS relief. Also, although this forum has over 4000 members now, only a small percent of them activly participate and only a portion of those individuals are truely in the market for another guitar. So realistically, even your best market is limited.
That is my take on the situation. Maybe I'm out in left field, but I don't think so. Another problem right now is timing. The holiday season has just passed and many are paying off those bills. I would think that later in the spring, as tax returns start flowing in, you would have better luck.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope it is nothing too serious and life will return to normal soon. Get well.

| Thanks for all the well thought out reponses and especially for all of the kind words. You folks are what's great about the internet.
Yes Aloha, I'll wait. I'd like for this guitar to be well treated after leaving my home.

The guitar arrived safe & sound. The packaging held up just fine. Told you, no worries :D
Today's balmy weather: 86 degrees, 78% humidity, light rain...I think I even detected a smile across the finish at the new climate ;)
Hope all works out for you, God bless !!
Thanks again,

That'll freeze the walnut nobs off your 1537 !!!! |
