I noticed a 1537 on ebay today. Apparently the owner has lowered his opening bid price from $800 to $700
1983 Custom Elite 1537 Natural
I haven't decided if I'm going to try to sell my kids or not yet. |

Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | Want it so bad I can taste it...just can't afford it. Maybe I should consider accepting payment for playing, and apply the money towards my ministry. I could have easily bought that 1537...but then again, I would feel like somehow I've benefited off of someone's misery (funerals) or taken advantage of friends (weddings)... actually weddings might fit under "misery" as well! Only other gigs are teaching kids basic guitar at school, and playing for shut-ins and nursing home residents. No big money to be found there!
Got nailed for an extra $1100.00 in taxes as well! I tell you at times it's discouraging...but overall I shouldn't complain.
O.K., sorry about the whining, I just realize that opportunities like this one won't be around forever. Someday though, God willing I will wrap my hands around a 1537 and play amazing grace...even if just once. Somebody here should buy this guitar.

Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | Steve, I didn't receive the email. Sometimes our school filtering system chooses on it's own to identify certain emails as unacceptable, and deletes them before we even see them. Try sending the same message to my home address...I can access my home computer from work through my local server/provider.
Sorry about the trouble.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Norse and any of you ministers out there: If you could qualify the donation of a guitar to a 501(c)(3) charity or religious organization, some of us that are a little upset about having to send a check to the tax man might consider the donation as an opportunity. I admit that I don't sound very charitable, but most charities wouldn't exist in this country if it wasn't for the tax deduction.
Then you also have to hope that desirable Ovations come up for sale at the end of the year when people are supposed to be doing some tax planning.
I also need to add a disclaimer that I haven't done any tax law since about 1980 and my wife will be very suspicious of this tax planning idea. |

Thanks for the help. I am however not a licensed minister...I'm a school teacher by trade. I do all of my "ministry" work on a volunteer basis. Wouldn't mind the deduction however!

Location: Boise, Idaho | I'm very much aware of bogus charities. I also know the IRS doesn't let you deduct the value of your time, unfortunately. I know there are some licensed ministers on this board that could probably make this work. Maybe they don't need any more guitars.
Another alternative is to get paying gigs and deduct the cost as a business expense. I think I'll do that. Then I get to keep the guitar. |

And keep the guitar. |

Right now I'm not raising 2k head of pig, 15k chickens and not growing 20 acres of soybeans. Wait, this year I'm not growing sugar beets; I keep forgetting I have to not rotate the crops. |
