I found a 1537 locally for $600. It has 3 finish cracks and one is pretty dark, so it might go into the wood. Has a small chip in the binding. Plays well and has no other issues that I could see. I didn't check the electronics on it.
I have offered it to a friend at work who fell in love with mine. If he doesn't want it, I'll offer it up to the OFC. Let me know if you're interested. I have no pics, since I haven't bought it yet, but I don't want this one to disappear.

Can you tell me what finish is on this guitar? How bad (in your opinion) do the cracks look?

It's the natural finish. Looks just like mine in the gallery except for the cracks. I think they are all finish cracks, one under the strings and the other two in the lower bout. None followed the grain, so I assume they don't go into the wood, but one was a little dark. That usually tells me it was wide enough to get some dirt in it. From 5 feet away you can't see any of them.

I replied. You're 4th behind the guy at work who doesn't return my phone calls (I suspect his wife screened my call), guiguite and Jim. It's interesting that I've been driving by this place for years and never went in until today. They had a bunch of nice guitars and didn't know how special the 1537 is.

At least it's better to be fourth than fifth...

BTW, any idea as to the model year of this one?

If the guy I work with doesn't want it, I'd be really surprised. But then, the last time he got close to buying one, he was broke because he bought an xbox or something. I told him that I hoped getting up to the next level on a video game was worth giving up on a 1537.

Just for fun...pencil me in at number 5. It just may be the closest I ever get to owning/playing a 1537.

Done. I'm pushing the guy at work to make a decision. I hope he doesn't drag his feet and then we find out it got sold to someone else.

Mark, If your friend doesn't give you an answer soon just issue him a suppoena and have him appear at an OFC Grand Jury.

Shhh...maybe he won't remember... ;)

Seriously though, how long are you going to be able to give your friend to know what he wants to do? Not impatient, just curious.

I'm getting impatient. If he doesn't make up his mind and someone else buys it, how many of you will help me kick his ass? (He's only about 5 ft 10, but he's pretty stout.)

Perhaps he's holding out for a new release of his favorite video game? Time to move this to someone who really wants it? Hate to see it get away. Hell, i'm close enough to drive up there today. Wouldn't do that, just saying ...

There's a sunburst 1537 on ebay right now that I've bid on. It's beat up a little, some cracks, dings, electronics don't work, etc. But I figured it would be a great beater guitar. Of course I need it like a third nipple ... so if anyone wants it go ahead and bid. There's no reserve.

Mark,

Rather than kicking his a$$ I would stick with sarcasm and verbal belittlement. It can be done from a distance and its more effective to stay inside your areas of accomplishment!

Avoid email though, way too traceable.

Posting in a chatroom may still be Ok.

Dave,
I note that he didn't say he changed the battery!

He may not know there IS a battery! If he metered the jack pins correctly and it was dead, then he's probably right that the pu is shot. I'm only interested in the guitar as an acoustic only, so no big deal.

I don't get it Mark? If you have a bunch of people on this site interested in buying it, why risk some "nobody" sneaking in and scarfing it up. Go get the thing, if your buddy wants it...fine, if not, you have some buyers out there that apparently are willing (hedge your position by getting a commitment from them of course).

I agree. Mark, you may want to (if you have the resources) go ahead and pick it up, so they don't either sell it out from under you or realize what it's really worth and raise the price.

And if you need help kicking, I've got a big foot and am not too far away...

I've definitely thought of buying it on my own, especially since my wife was gone this weekend. She's back and I'd rather my friend deal with his wife than have me deal with mine. I didn't get to 28 years of marriage by being stupid. OK, I'm pretty stupid. I've also been thinking about buying the 2000 Collector's they have at the same place.

Guys, not to hijack the thread but since there are like 6 of you interested, might I remind you that I have a mint black 1537 that is available for sale. Not $600 but mint.

Took my friend down to the pawnshop and he checked out the 1537 really well. Besides the finish cracks, the end of the fret board is curling up, which causes some fret buzz when played at about the 15th fret. That's not a serious problem. Also, no case. My friend's going to try to get it for $500. It won't leave Boise.

I showed him that one. I'm afraid a novice might try exactly that. If he buys it and tries the screwdown, I will have a bunch of volunteers come over and kick his ass.

An update. He bought it for $525 without a case, but a pretty good deal nonetheless. I'm sure he's home polishing it and putting new strings on it.
