Both have 8 strings and are tuned the same except the mandocello might be lower. Longer scale.
The mandocello have an awesome sound. |

Location: Scotland | There are a few Mandocello tunings but the most common is low C, in 5ths. So it's CGDA an octave below tenor mandola. With a change of nut and string guage you can tune them as a Greek or Irish bouzouki. Don't for one second think that a mandocello is just a big mandolin. The scale length is huge by comparison and nothing you can do on mandolin tranlates to mandocello, it's a completely different animal. |
