| I have way too many guitars not being played so it's spring cleaning time. This 1987 #606 was hardly ever used. I have all the original papers including the original receipt (I'm the second owner but the receipt shows $1800 for the guitar and with tax the total was $1915). It was never registered. Signs of use are few. It looks new. There is one bummer, a crack in the finish near the cut away. it's only in the gloss and not the wood. Many have told me this guitar has a very similar tone to the 1537. It sounds really nice and it plays really, really nice ;)
So to sum it up, the only flaw is the crack in the finish (3 inches) otherwise it looks brand new.
comes with the original case in super shape. $800 + shipping.
email for pictures.

Both have been on my short list, but I only developed a list in the last year and it keeps getting longer instead of shorter. |

Was an asking price ever determined for the UTE? |

It is the OFC....have one shipped to Dave until the dust settles and then have him ship it out.
A great opportunity. |

| okay, i'm home now (11pm sunday night)...long day. i'll email pictures to those that requested first thing in the morning. if any one cares, the 1616 sold to a guy in spain. i think it's kinda cool to imagine the ovation's journey to it's new owner across the atlantic. --yeah, i like these guitars a bit too much--
adios,

I can find a nicer one of those if I ever get a little breathing room between my other items on the must have list. The 87 and Ute are both on the short list. I keep promising (by my silence) to stop buying guitars for awhile, but then something else on the short list comes up. I also want a deep bowl Custom Legend. |

Since you already have a very nice 1537, the Ute would make a better addition to your collection.
If you really got to have both and you want to keep peace with SWMBO, perhaps you should consider selling the Custom Balladeer and Matrix to get some cash and to make room on the wall for the new O's. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Thanks, Mitch. My "logic" is this: (I'm sure you appreciate that this is not very lawyerlike) my daughters were born in 83 and 87, two of the best years for Ovation, in my opinion. I would like to have one for each eventually.
The Custom Balladeer was cheap and is my only shallow bowl, so it's my primary travel guitar. The Matrix was my first Ovation, bought by my soon to be wife and me so that I could play it in our wedding. It needs to stay even if my wife doesn't care about it's sentimental value. Both of them won't bring in half what the 87 costs. So I'm just doomed to keep acquiring. I also have more wall space available if my wife doesn't force us to downsize. |

Outside of Connecticut the NW is going to become the center of gravity for O's -- well, maybe.

Location: Boise, Idaho | I'm trying to do my part. Besides me, I've got 2 daughters with Ovations (if you count a Celebrity Deluxe and an Applause) and 2 friends that I've talked into buying 3 Ovations. Actually I didn't have to do much talking, they just came over to the house.
This group is like the audience on a game show, cheering someone on to spend someone else's money. I'd love to buy the 87 and the Ute, but haven't seen pictures of either and doubt I can get both or maybe neither right now. If we ever get a Northwest OFC jam put together and it's at our cabin, I'll try to bring the whole herd. I'm going to be in Portland over Memorial Day, but I have to haul a van load of my daughter's stuff back.
Link up with Waskel and let him play that 1537, so he sees what we're talking about. |

It's the stupid things you say that they never forget. 22 years ago I was travelling on Mother's Day and called my wife to ask if she sent anything to my mother. She was sitting home with a brand new baby and started crying because I didn't think about her for Mother's Day. Of course, I said, "You're not my mother." She repeated that story every mother's day for years. I didn't even remember saying it. All I remember is they gave us a nice meal on the airplane. |

Naw, I think they are running out of flavors...I'll be letting go of a two of 1687's (have four), probably the 1681 Serge used on his new CD, a 1719-30CM (have three), a Custom Elite, '76 Patriot (have two), Country Artist (have two), and maybe a couple of others. Maybe even the Millennium, Typhoon, and the '97 Collectors. At least over the next several years.
No hurry, price keeps going up ;) |

No problem, I think that was why I was tagged as an adoption agency.
And, if anyone hasn't checked out LostArt/Vintage Instruments (Al's site), be prepared for a GAS attack.
It is so hard to sell or trade a guitar once I have it. Hate to have a guitar in a case...needs to be on the wall or on a stand. That way, they are part of the family. Even if you don't play it often, there is a time when you pick it up and don't put it down for several hours. That's the way it is with the two shiny bowls or the 68-69 1127 that I have. By the way, if you like the 1127/1627, try a very early model...mine is (IMHO) 40% better than the several 1127's I played that were made in the 70's. |

I do remember that on our second daughter's birthday I tried to grab a couple hours sleep and showed up for a golf tournament. Played pretty well. The high wore off that afternoon. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | OK, I realize that I am the only one still posting on this thread, but I didn't want to start a new one. The 87 is a gorgeous instrument. It definitely ranks up there with my 1537. I has more bass boom than the 1537, but that can be explained by the 1919s on it vs the 1717s? on the 1537, that I haven't changed in 6 months. The 87 has way more bling. It is my first with abalone and there's plenty of it. The neck is a satin finish, which surprised me. Somewhere in between the gloss of the 1537 and the neck on the 99. The action is higher than the 1537, so I'll try some 1818s and take out a shim.
Even the case was almost perfect, with the original hang tags and receipt. Even Bill's smiling face in the booklet that came with it. Someday I'll try Tony's crack repair and try to take out the only blemish in an otherwise perfect guitar. |

The 87 Collectors is widely regarded as one of the best guitars ever built by Ovation.
Mine also has more bass than my 1537. Part of that can be explained by the fewer treble side sound holes. When you don't have them, or you plug up the ones there, the bass gets much more prominent.
I've never seen the owners booklet that comes with it. Could you possibly either scan or copy it for me? I'd really appreciate it, and would stop making lawyer jokes at least for a couple of weeks. |

oh, great...just hurt her (1687 Reissue) feelings. So, she doesn't have abalone, the fragility of a wood top, aging of 19 years...fortunately, she has a place of honor and respect down here :p |

I also have the Collector's booklet that came with it, do you have one of those? Our scanner is busted, so I could fax it or photocopy it and send it to you. Any preference? |
