 obviously an unstable person to deal with!

Not trustworthy. He'd be better off saying his wife made him sell it or he had medical bills for a loathesome disease.

Hi, I've been considering bidding on this guitar if the price doesn't go too high. Other than the owner switching to the banjo, is there something I'm missing about that should make me reconsider? I've been the high bidder on several of these recently, but haven't met the reserve price both times. Do you think $450 is too high?

I'm not a good source for pricing the value of an Elite...as I have never owned one. I didn't mean to impy there is anything wrong with the guitar...just having a little fun with his motive for selling (and to irritate any happy banjo pickers on the OFC ;) ).

My gut instinct is that this guitar will sell for less than $450.00...I'm thinking three something..but again, I really don't know.

Good Luck!!!

I don't know if it's the guitar or the photos, but the headstock and tuners look like they got caught in an acid spray...

Oh OK...I get it. I thought that's all it was.

I'm frantically searching for another shallow bowl Ovation since my CS257 fell over and snapped the previously repaired headstock. I thought I'd be better off with an Ovation USA model. I just discovered the forum here, so if anybody has a suggestion or a guitar for sale I'm all ears.

The CS257 was my first Ovation and I fell in love with it. No joy since its demise! I loved the shallow bowl, low action, and thin neck. I missed a little bottom end playing unplugged, but then I have another acoustic that can boom, but I don't like playing it as much.

I'm with Waskel on this one. Guitar looks good except for the headstock/tuner area. Wonder what the story is?

Go for it Brian. $450 is definitely NOT too high a price. Play it smart and snipe. That means don't bid until the last 15 seconds of the auction, then bid the highest price that you can afford. If your really want the guitar, go as high as $480. This is a great guitar from the 80's. The current bidders appear to be eBay amateurs, except for Roundback (an OFC member) but don't worry he won't bid any more.

who is roundback...I've seen him/her so many times...it's like the Shadow...always lurking at every good deal...or does he (she) prefer to remain anonymous?

p.s. I still think this guitar will sell for under $400.00.

Well, me too, but the last 2 I bid on the reserve was higher than that. One was relisted with a starting bid of $450.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a better model with the shallow bowl and still keep me within my credit card limit? Or should I consider a mid-depth Ovation?

If it were me, and I had $450.00 to spend...I would hold off and find a cleaner guitar.

I have dealt with Paul (roundback) on a number of occassions - direct and eBay.

Class act, excellent with disclosure, etc.

Paul knows his guitars. I have one of his former Ovations, once removed, and bought a 90 Collector's for him that I think he sold to another member. Very nice guy. I think he'd be Roundback on this board, but somebody already took it before he signed up.

I've been looking for an 1868 Elite for a while. The bids have been going from $380 to $595. I would really like the white body. The last white body had a $800 BIN price, I think thats way too much. So I'll keep looking. I would be interested in an Adamus 1881.

Here is a link to another 1868 Elite 20 hrs left.

I am Spartacus.... er, roundback. And I am very much an eBay bottomfeeder, so my first bid is usually my last.

Off to prepare for a funeral. Not my own.

The 1868 is one of the better shallow bowl models. This particular guitar looks nice. You may get lucky and win the bid for under $450. A mid-depth Ovation will cost more. Do you want a new guitar? Contact Al at lostartvintage.com and find out what he gets for a mid-depth Balladeer or Elite T.

Hope all goes well!

Since Paul is a minister, I'm hoping the funeral is "business."

Well, I won the auction at $411. I guess time will tell if it's a worthy purchase. At least it didn't max out my credit card. I'm pretty anxious to get my hands on it and be once again in the ranks of Ovation owner.

Congrats!!! I think $411.00 is a great price from what I've been hearing!

You'll have to tell us all about it after it arrives!

Good for you Bro!

p.s. I was off by $12 bucks on my guess.

The only down side to this of course is that there is now one more Banjo player in the world!

The funeral was indeed a professional service, but it happened to be for someone who was also my friend. These things happen....

As to the frightening increase in the number of banjo players, I believe The Book of Uncommon Prayer has a rite of exorcism that might be applicable.

To Briwilt: congratulations on the purchase!

Yes, and I thank you and the others for your input. Very happy I found this forum too, by the way.

As for the banjo, I always wanted to play one but decided against it at an early age since I realized I could never finger pick fast enough to keep up with Earl Scruggs. I guess this is why I mostly use a flat pick, which I sometimes have to duct tape to my hand to prevent droppage. :D

I'll give a full report after it arrives, hopefully in one piece. Stay tuned!

by the way...it was about the same amount ($12 bucks) that I was outbid on a 1537, so I guess $12 bucks can be alotomoney!
