Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I probably shouldn't mention it here, but as of this morning there are two, count them two, 2080's on the bay.
I am going after them (2davis), hopefully will get the first one, if not, more aggressive on the second one, so be gentle okay. Of course, may get sniped on both....oh well.
I am somewhat surprised by the lack of action, but this is a first year and not everyone is into the style. Guess we will see what happens. The contour back and VIP look pretty sweet to me. |

I see you're going for the one where the seller actually took pictures of it. Good thinkin. |

Although I am not cancelling yet....a wrinkle has come up in the form of a sister-in-laws wedding plans. I am hoping to persuade my spouse that I really shouldn't be there anyway, but not sure that is going to hold up.
Not losing hope yet, but certainly is a cloud on the horizon. |

It'll be interesting to see what kind of $ they get. |

Location: SoCal | What is so sad about this is that most don't know how great a guitar this actually is...try to find one in a store. Course, this is the story of top of the line Ovation and Adamas. I was able to play it at NAMM...very nice.
Heck, Elderly has it advertised at $2,099 with "on order, expected arrival date unknown". |

Check out the bidding. Although he did not cost you much, the Seller of the other 2080 (the one with the stock picture) bid against you at the wire.
Maybe that other Seller won't have anything to sell now.
Their bidding does not appear to have raised the final price by much, but sure looks shady for an eBay Seller. |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | Good observation Noah,
I sent him an email and asked him why he did that. I am sure he is probably nervous about where his auction is going since he surely paid several hundred more than what I just paid.
I find it odd that neither auction has a reserve. That would be unusual in my ebay experience for such items, don't you think? Maybe they are really the same person?
Irregardless, it if is as advertised, it should be one sweet guitar. Probably my last AE purchase ever (I owned my 1537 for over 10 years before I bought the W597).
The W597 will go on the block as soon as I confirm that the 2080 is everything I think it will be. Since I don't collect guitars, I am looking for that one best compromise in instruments that will last me a long, long time. The 1537 will probably be my only "collectors" guitar.

I am really trying to find the "life" guitar now and this one seems to have all the characteristics of that, so when I get to play it along side the other two I own, it should make for an interesting comparison. |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I received an email from the guy who ran the bidding up a bit, then pulled his auction. I had asked him why he did that unless he intended to buy another. His response was simply "let me know how you like the 2080, I would be interested in your opinion".
I am confused??????????????????????? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I think you've got it. He ran up your bids to try to improve his auction. He probably stopped when it looked like he might end up with 2 2080s and didn't need the one he had. You got a good deal nevertheless. |

Nice guitar at a really decent price! |

Location: SoCal | Mark, The guy with the other 2080 pulled his auction. I wrote him asking for actual pictures and a serial#. I never got a response. I'd venture to say that the guy did not have a 2080 to sell. |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | Got the 2080 this afternoon, and of course, couldn't wait to try it out (in my office). This is just some initial impressions, since I have neither plugged it in or put much needed new strings on it (plus the battery was dead).
Guitar as received from seller was like new as was the case. That part is great. Appearance is very understated, but the texture top makes you realize that there is something better here than the first "all dark" appearance. I guess I wish they had not included the Nike Swoosh on the 12th fret. Do you suppose they receive a promotional fee for each 2080 sold????
First strumming. Tone is more full and louder than the W597, yet lacks the treble or bite that the W597 has. Possibly due to the sound hole configuration. Quite frankly I can't wait to put this beside the 1537 because they sound very similar to me. New strings will probably add a bit. Volume is pretty loud, maybe not to 1537 levels, but exceed the mid-bowel 597. Generally the sound is buttery smooth and a tad bass biased. I like this, but I like the edginess of the W597 too, so now what do I do....
Finger picking, the neck feels a bit fuller to me, even though the specs are the same as the 597. This is good, as I still struggle with touching the high E when playing some chords. The satin neck (hand rubbed maybe?) is much nicer than the urethaned neck on the 1537.
Overall fit and finish only had one real dissappointment...the binding around the top shows a lot of sanding marks, which I would not expect in this $$$ category of guitar. In one location near the neck, the body actually has a small slice into the edge where it looks like someone got carried away with a trimming knife or razor blade. I think it was in manufacture, not the prior owner, but ???
The rest of the guitar, setup, action, frets top etc, are near perfect. I would guess I could drop it by one shim and it would be even lower, but not sure I will do that right away as it really feels pretty good with no buzz.
Can't wait to plug it in....might actually have to drag out an XLR to test this puppy out a bit.
Looking forward to Fugot's impressions if he wins his. |
