Location: ITALY | ...well Guys,
I really appreciate your efforts to make me feel part of the family.
I owe you some explanations about my anxieties: in Europe (and here in Italy) Ovation's prices are VERY high.
Let's take 1773LX prices = from 2,100 up to 2,250$ versus 1,350$ average in the US.
So why not buying via web from an American dealer? Well, because you should pay not only the 1,350 but also Taxes (20% additional), Customs (I don't know exactly, but it's not particularly cheap) and Shipping (at least 150$) - in order to have your guitar after more or less 3weeks and after such a trip.
Actually my choice is getting it from a dealer where I've been and where I've tried it too.
...and now my question: the 1773 I'm ready to buy has got a little sign between the "bridge" and the bottom of the guitar - it's not a scratch, it's not been made by a customer, it seems to be a very-very light defect in the finissage phase, it's 2inches long, 1/8inches wide, straight. You can only observe it in a strict counterlight: I was told by the dealer (a very big one here) that such kind of issue (or worst, like scratches) is not rare and that it may happen with any brand.
I have verified with other dealers: yes, unfortunately they have experiences like that - no matter brand, typology and price...
What's your experience about it: I mean, ever happened a brand new Ovation with little factory imperfections?
Thank you all again! | |

the guitar will get to you in 8-12 DAYS for $150 shipping.
Are you comparing euros and US dollars? that is not the same.
Plus from what you describe your cost would be about $1700 dollar US.
As for the defect. that is something you have to determine that you can live with.
I have owned and bought and sold more ovations than I can remember. New, first qauality Ovations should not have any flaws

And new guitars should not have any finish cracks either.

Location: ITALY | Al,
yes I was comparing euros and USD to let everybody understand the gap.
I should have said "from 1,650 up to 1,750 Euro versus 1,350$" adding that "today's rate exchange is 1.279USD per Euro".
I only preferred to translate everything in dollars...
In order to complete, I've called FedEx about Taxes and Customs: they gave me a rounded amount of 30% on declared value (which is the price on the bill).
So in my example, starting from a price of 1,350USD we have a total of at least 1,900 (which is not yet the pricing here in Italy, but is still 200$ over the estimation you advanced).
Regarding shipping timetable, you are right!
Al & Slipkid,
I completely agree: a brand new guitar - any brand - shouldn't have any flaws or cracks or defect of any kind.
Do they send them all to Italy?...
