Location: Birmingham, Alabama | For sale/for trade is a first year model 1537, 1981 Ovation "Elite" acoustic guitar.
This model was created because of high demand for a spruce top Adamas.
Natural finish spruce top, non-cutaway, w/ floral design and lateral soundholes, very good to excellent condition.
Stereo acoustic/electric.
High quality Adamas pre-amp and pickup, tone and volume (wooden walnut knobs).
Among the best amplified acoustics I've heard.
The neck is like a '57 reissue strat, with a soft "V" and nice taper up the neck.
Excellent big sound strummed and fast solo playing are both strong points.
I also fingerpick a good bit and love the sound I've always gotten.
Unplugged tone and volume are leagues above newer Ovations.
Build quality and craftsmanship are excellent
The sound is big and full, it projects, and has a rich warmth with great string separation.
Great sounding and playing durable stage guitar with definite "living room" appeal.
I have my eye on more gear and am motivated to finally part with it.
Could be open to trades, interested in Gibson electrics or other set neck guitars.
Pls email for questions.
$700 OBO, paypal or US postal money order.
Digital pics available.
Thanks for looking,
Keith |

Location: SoCal | So what is the serial number? And just FYI, there was no 1981 1537. The first year they came out was 1983, with the 2 prototypes that went to cwkII and Glen Campbell being built in 1982.
By the way, Bill's always maintained that the only difference between his 1537 and Glen's is the direction the fret markers point at the 12th fret. Not true. The epaulets are different as well. |

Location: boulder | Hey, I am sorry. I should have been more clear. Keith emailed the pics to me. There doesn't seem to be a crack anywhere, looks sweet. slight wear on lower epaulet, slight wear on 2nd or 3rd fretboard. s/n I think means it is early 1984.
I am not sure how I found ad/post. just trying to help. never met keith before. seems honest enough. peace mike |

Location: Hiram, Georgia | I picked it up last night. It has two or three very faint dings on top, a few dings on the binding, a couple more dings on the nek and headstock, but never the less is still a looker. It sounds gooood!

Location: Hiram, Georgia | Thank you for the sentiments, This purchase in a way is the conclusion of my quest for a ute that I had purchased about a month ago from the XYZ Music Co. The top was caved in about an inch, and the fretboard was curved down into the top. :( I had a awful sinking feeling in my heart when I opened the case. The horror of that experience caused all my gas for a ute to evaporate. I'm really starting to feel better now.
This guitar is simply beautiful, the natural spruce top has mellowed to a rich golden hue, very organic, the picturec don't do it justice.
Cheered up now :D |

Location: Houston, Texas | Oh! Very nice. It's close to the spitting image of mine. How's the paint on the back? Mine is just about mint with zero dings and dents, but the bowl paint is peeling badly around the hatch cover. The balance, resonance and sustain of these guitars are just amazing.
The key thing to remember about uploading pictures to the gallery is not to exceed 100kb per pic.
Congratulations. |

| That sold fast, less than 2 days..It seems the 1537/1547 have become 'THE' collectible Ovation guitar...(I know it had to go for more than the advertised price :) ) Congratulations Georgia boy! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The advertised price was very reasonable. About a year ago these were going for over $1000 in decent condition. One went for about $1250 on ebay and the paint was peeling off the back. |

Bad news though, you still NEED a U681T, or perhaps a A1/A2 for the textured top... preferably acoustic only (#47) and *something* with a 12 fret wide neck (do you like koa?) ... Oh, and a center hole model, with perhaps just the FET PRE-AMP and an endpin jack. In fact you NEED to have at least one pre-amp from each generation: Two knobber, stacked knob, OP-24/Optima, OP-30/50, OP-PRO/studio/VIP5.
Am I helping your GAS problem?? :p :D :p :D |

Location: Hiram, Georgia | Dear Fugot, THANK YOU! for directing this guitar to the OFC! :DPhil :D
I've bonded with this guitar for a week now,and all I can say is "totally amazing!" It truly is the Grand Daddy of the 1778LX. I find myself doing side by side comparisons quite frequently, and the verdict is: The same thing, but A LOT MORE of IT! The 1537 is my reference guitar for the woodtop, multi soundhole genre, period! Thanks also to the collective wisdom of the OFC. In the Light there is more Light! |

and a few others.
Phil,
You can now only go "up" to satisfy GAS. The bar is set high.
Have fun. |

You are more then welcome. I am glad it worked out for everyone--but fred is right, you can only go up and it's hard to top the 1537's. (contour bowl).........peace mike |

Location: Hiram, Georgia | Yeah Mike, move up and over to a cutaway or composite top, I still have GAS, for a black AdamasII, my long lost '84 Collector, a Franken-utte, etc.
For anyone who keeps such statistics, the 1537 sold in 16hrs, seller was impressed, would have been sooner but I didn't check the board the night before. I suppose I could've missed the boat altogether! Thank GOD! |
