Location: Gig Harbor, Washington | As several of you may recall - I agreed to take on the task of building a custom NOS Preacher DeLuxe for a close friend who'd fallen in love with mine (also a custom nos)...
Well - as it neared completion, he elected to pass on it (sight unseen) due to some financial/job-change issues, etc.
This project has enjoyed the good fortune to have some of our favorite, long-time members helping with parts acquisitions (to drop a few names: Sam, Miles, Woody and or course Kim from the MotherShip!). So what we have is a new, virgin (no in-store wear), New Old Stock Preacher DeLuxe with a few added trimmings such as a Custom Walnut P/G (courtesy of Woody!), a Custom Legend style carved truss rod cover, and of course, an OHSC (not nos).
I'll get some pic's posted asap, but in the meantime - to refresh your memories:
Ovation Preacher DeLuxe
Please feel free to email me with your interests. This one-of-a-kind deserves a home that will cherish and pamper this babe as it's quality deserves. This one will command a respectful pricetag, so bottom-dwellers (you know who you are! ;) ) need not apply.
Thanks in advance for your warm response...Best regards~ Mr. G
p.s. feel free to visit my 100% feedback @ eBay. |

Location: Upper Left USA | Partecaster seems to have already been taken. I like to call my projects refreshed. Mutt doesn't do it justice.
The term "born again" Preacher Deluxe works if it is made from used parts, which isn't the case here.
I think we need a French word here... |

Location: Upper Left USA | When Mr. G called me yesterday with almost first offers he was on the way to the hospital to greet his first Grandbaby.
For some strange reason he hasn't returned my calls. What could be more important than talking about guitars???

Actually, you're right- that CC212's moniker was The Phoenix. New top & peghead.
And that allusion to "bottom-dwellers", Kurt; I have a reputation to be maintained! I can't be casually throwing around thousands of dollars for pristine instruments that I can't do major surgery on. I should probably change my name to Dr. Moreau. |

I'll hope to catch some guitar pic's on Saturday, and will try to display both the similarities, but also the unique differences as well, between this one and the other two specimens I have (one - the black PD highlighted on the ovationtribute.com site and the other, a traditional one like the ovationguitars.com version referenced earlier in this post).
This one (though respecting Miles puritan distinction re: NOS) is a custom (as opposed to factory) Preacher DeLuxe style guitar composed of new old stock (aka OUPD) components assembled by me (a thirty+ year Ovation player, collector and technician).
As for the sorta pricetag I'm entertaining - had I known what kinda time, cash & energy it would take to complete this project - I'd have probably passed (but for the love of the craft!). That being said, my target is $850...no offense intended toward any fellow bottom dwellers!
As I've comp'd the high-end, gold-plated, abalone inlayed, active electronics, 24 fret, bound ebony, solid Honduran mahagony alternatives...one can't touch the guitar I just described for under a grand - especially one with this sorta unused geneology!
Hope this helps to satisfy your curiousity. Thanks again for your interest...feel free to pose any further questions you may have...Best wishes~ Grampa G
p.s. Ethan Andrew tipped the scales @ 7# 3z's & 19" (and he's got really long fingers on his left hand, and long nails on his right!) ;) |

Was wondering about that.....down here in hermistonia, south of the Tri-Cities (as one youngster said, "Pasco, Shopko and Costco" |

If anyone can guide me on re-sizing to upload, etc. that'd be cool...in the meantime, please email me and I'll shoot you a collection for your review. Many Mahalos 2 Y'allos~ |

| Hi Kurt, are the phase/slider switches on the pickups covered over on this?
or was this built/assembled without them?
as these added many more flavors to the various tones possible with these guitars, I was wondering why they would be omitted.
Beautiful Guitars in the photos, I think one looks familiar.
Thanks,
Glenn |

If I wasn't in the middle of a similar project, I would jump all over it. It does give me a lofty goal to shoot for though. Only problem is, if all projects from the northwest are going to be called Phoenix, what do we call the New Jersey based projects??? Smokestacks? Swamprats? Gangstas? Maybe Al and Cliff can help out here... |

Yes - the Black Beauty is indeed the cherished player formerly residing at your house! Moe absolutely loves it (which helps keep him from scrounging my guitars) and the Minty Folklore he picked up from Felix keeps him away from my FD14!
And, yes - this custom PD doesn't incorporate the phase swithes, though, if desired, the future owner could certainly add that to the mix.
I personally find them to be totally overkill as far as a voicing alternative, so I opted not to have them wired into the configuration (after much discussion on the matter). It's a pretty simple mod' if one's so inclined...
Thanks for your insightful observation!
p.s. don't the four of them look awesome together! seems a shame to break up the party...
Peace, Love & OverDrive~ |
