my 82 collectors arrived today and is beautiful, but the rosette has been knocked off at some point and one of the pieces of abalone is missing. the mothership doesn't make them the same way any longer so my only option with them is to buy an entire "new" rosette assembly.
1982-8

does anyone here have an old cl rosette or a piece of abalone from an old cl or does anyone have a piece of abalone stock that I could shape to fit to replace. I don't want to re-attach the rosette until I get this remedied.

Thanks,

Glenn

You are not the first one of us daunted by the $300 price tag for an Abalone Rosette!

You might try this Abolam or something similar.

are the inlays green paua, white mop, or gold mop?
I am finding all kinds of sources for this, anyone know what the color actually is? looks like the tiles are 1mm or thinner and appear to resemble white or gold mop the most.

woody, I'll send you the extra pieces I don't need.

great idea!!! should be easy to cut to fit, and much cheaper than the $90 quote my luthier just gave me.

thanks for all of the suggestions from everyone, I have ordered one ounce of assorted colors of abalone/mop inlay tiles and should be shipping from AU as I am writing this. after the repair is made, the remaining pieces will go to our resident
shade-tree luthiers so that they may pursue their endeavors at restoration, modification, and repair.

I have tried test-fitting various materials other than original and so far the best looking was made of aluminum foil and lightly colored with different color sharpies. it looks right and since no-one will know the difference once the rosette is glued back down, I may just tack it down like that till the parts get here,

I think I have one of those picks around somewhere also...now, where's those scissors?

A more fitting replacement would have been gum wrappers from the Lunchroom garbage at the Tour! Give John or Kim a call!

At least I think they were gum wrappers...
