Location: Lebanon, TN | Okay in a bid to expand what I am buying in the coming months, I suggested a project to my wife that she has signed off on as over and above the other purchases I intend to make.
I am looking for three Collector's edition guitars to match the three momentous dates in our family's lives. I would like to find and buy:
1984 Collectors (year of our marriage)
1986 Collectors (year of our sons's birth)
1990 Collectors (year of our daughters birth)
I am already watching the 84 on Ebay and 86 could be expensive as there is both the 6 and 12 that year. I will be sending what ever I find that works back to the mothership for restoration as these will be family keepers in addition to the other loves of my life.
If anyone wants to shout out suggestions please do and please help me keep a look out for these special guitars for our family. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The 90 has a 16 fret neck and came in a shallow and deep bowl. Shallows are easier to find. I bought one for Paul Blanchard here for around $400, but it would have needed some work eventually. He might have sold it.
I like the scheme. I did the same thing, but didn't have enough kids. Now I'm starting on anniversaries. Just got the 30th, for next year's anniversary. (The Ute would have been a good 30th anniversary guitar, too, but I didn't have to waste that excuse to get it.) |

Location: Chehalis, Washington | Hmmm...I could do my kids ('04, '05, '07), wedding ('03), brothers' birthdays ('83, '85, '86), cousin's daughter ('06), year of 9/11 ('01) for obvious reasons, graduation ('98)...I need a good reason for an '87 now.
BTW, there's a really nice 1990 Collector\'s up on the bay now, looks to be immaculate. Might be a good one to check out. |

Location: Lebanon, TN | Thanks BluesSailor/TC :-) One down and two to go. Yeah I sniped through with $650 in the magazine so to get it for the $457 is great news. This looks like it is pretty much a spot between a CL and a Legend with nice finish.
The only oddball thing is that in the O-site pictures the 1984 with a stacked volume/tone mounted in the waist, which seems consistent with the time. This one has what looks like an Optima and combined 1/4 inch and XLR (see the link above for pictures). Wonder if this has been back to the mothership at some time??
Also any opinions of the value of the 1990 that is set at $599 minimum? Looks minty, but is that towards the top of expectations/Mid range?? |

Location: closely held secret | Must have gone back in for the Optima, I don't think they started until the early/mid 90's. The Optima is a great preamp.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Find out what Paul Blanchard got for the 90 I mentioned above. I think it was a little over $400. The action was at the high end of specs, but otherwise, it was pretty cherry. Erniewan also has been watching for 90s, but wants a deep bowl. You might contact him and see what he thinks. |

Location: Lebanon, TN | Okay so I am now 2 out of 3 (1984 and 1990) as I also got the 90 that was described above from Ebay. I am very excited waiitng for these two to arrive. The 16 fret on the 90 intrigues me...will give you my impressions when they arrive.
I have seen a couple of '86 6-strings listed with dealers for the $800 mark but that seems on the rich side and photo's showed them to be a little beaten up on the finger boards, so I am going to watch closely. |
